Why Should Students Work? Essay Example
Many young people have jobs while they still attending school. Some people think it has negative effects; however, the majority believes that working benefits students and they should have jobs. Working helps student in their career development, gives them financial independence and develops important personal characteristics.
Working and studying at the same time helps students in their future careers. Having a job while still studying gives young people opportunities to get some experience. This is an important factor when after school students are looking for jobs. There is a bigger chance to be hired if student have work experience than if resume is empty. While student work they develop workplace skills, learn how to work as a team. In addition, studies showed that students who have jobs tend to drop out of school less. David Stern and Derek Briggs believe that “students who work moderate hours perform better in school”. Experiencing practical life makes students to take their studies more serious.
Another reason why students should work is economical freedom. Students who don’t work depend on their parents in everything. On the other hand, employed students earn their own money. They don’t have to ask their parents for pocket money. They become to realize the real value of money and how hard it is to get it. Many students contribute part of their pay checks to their family’s budgets. Moreover, some students save their money in order to continue education and be able to pay tuitions.
Finally, working helps students to develop important in life qualities. Because students work, they become more punctual and disciplined. They realize that if they are late, they are getting paid less. Also, because they can pay for themselves and don’t have to bag anyone for a couple of bucks, they feel more confident. Students who work are usually more responsible. Furthermore, they respect other people’s work and are respected by their friends and families.

This essay brought up a point that I myself have never thought of before. I’ve worked multiple part-time jobs since my freshman year of high school and have continued to hold a job through my time in college thus far. I disagree with the author in his theory that the part-time jobs of today turn students into robots and that the skills gained from them have completely changed over time. Holding a job throughout high school has strengthened my time management skills and allowed me to be able to live more independently; being that I’m not always relying on my parents for money. It has also allowed me to pay for my college tuition. While not everyone is the same, I know a lot of students who work to pay for their education and I know there’s also kids out there who work to pay for their wild lifestyle.…

First of all, we all understand how hard working while in school can be. However, most students have to work for their personal expenses, including gas money to go to school, which is an expensive need nowadays. Even if the student is a part-time worker he will undoubtedly have a negative impact on his grades. Some students have late night jobs, notwithstanding their morning classes. As a consequence, the tired student won't learn as much as he could. Yet, many undergraduates would more than likely have to work still. It could be for some other reasons like family or personal needs, excluding gas money; but if it's provided, it will definitely help a lot. Hence, students will have enough money for their needs, more time to study, they will not have to work harder nor stress over it.…

When a student becomes employed, they can save the money that they earned, which can benefit for their future education. To further explain, the interview “ Paying for College without Loans, Scholarships or Looting your Parents’ Retirement” by Steinburg, Jacques and Mr. Zac Bissonnette tells the reader how “ Saves $6 per hour of that throughout high school will have 24,960 in savings,”(Bissonette 13). This proves to show that just with saving a little bit of money, can help the student pay off college easily. Others may argue that working during high school can distract a student from their work, but the same article leads a different direction with that statement. For example, it states how “college student who were employed...higher average GPA (2.72) than those who werent working,” (Bissonette 13).The statistics clearly show that when a student works during school it motivates them try harder at school. Overall, working while being in high school allows the student to not be in such a high…

Poverty often causes hard times and, “roughly 30 percent of students who drop out of school between the ages of 16 and 18 are working in a variety of jobs”(Rosales). Clearly, these students work to support their family in low-income communities. Most also feel it is a waste of time and others want to attend school, yet don’t have the opportunities to stay. Having a job has many benefits. One of these benefits is obvious, earning an income. With an income comes responsibility. When a student becomes an adult, he or she has to learn to depend on their own income, and there is nothing they can do to prepare themselves for that except to begin to get a feel for the responsibilities earning an income brings. Students can gain experience by working through high school. This brings the opportunity to learn how to budget money, which is a vital part of being independent. Budgeting takes a lot of self-discipline and trial and error, but is possible to learn. It is also important for students to start making purchases that result in monthly payments, such as cell phone or car payments. Not only does this give students the ability to establish credit, but also a feel for what having bills is like. These are things that all students need to gain exposure to and begin become experienced with. It would be much more difficult to learn these things when one is dependent on themselves. This has been a highly debated topic all over the world. With education now becoming more costly day by day it has become difficult for people to pay for their education. Unlike in the past students now days have a higher scope in various different fields. Turning to the economic aspect of present leading nations, instability is on the rise, therefore leading to parents not being able to pay for their children’s education and the children/students having to work. As we know that in countries like the United States of America children are trained and expected to work after the age of eighteen. I fully believe and am for students working and studying at the same time. While studying and working the student now learns the value of money and education. The two most important factors which a student must understand. When a student goes to get a job while he is studying, he probably does not get a job which pays him a lot but he learns to struggle and realizes the importance of education. This leads to him studying as he now would not want to an average student as he knows where he could land up. Also with the student working he will now not waste money chemicals or any other substance abuse, in fact he will think twice before spending even a dollar because he now knows how difficult it is to earn a dollar. Also now when the when student is bored is can switch from learning to working, not only for money but this also broadens his scope in the field of work. It is also proven that many people who just work to pay their university fees land up changing their profession or what they want to pursue as they suddenly realise that their interests lie in something very different from their current. The practice is a good way to fix the students’ knowledge’s. Many students now try getting jobs related to their field, this way the get on job experience of their subject and can also use the information they gain while working in their university, like a student studying hotel…
