‘It Is More Important to Be Clever Than Beautiful or Handsome.’ Do You Agree?
Dear Editor,
‘It is more important to be clever than beautiful or handsome.’ Do you agree?

Outlook was the first impression to the strangers, so either you are handsome or beautiful, it gives a good impression to them. However, living in a modern society, being handsome is not the most important thing. Indeed, clever is more important in contrast.

First of all, clever usually makes you successful person. Let’s take an example. When you are studying at university, you learns well because you are more clever than the others. This makes you a greater academic results. The higher the academic results you got, the more the companies invite you to work. More companies want you means you are valunable, this indicates you are a successful person. In contrast to be beautiful or handsome, they only represents your outlook but not your talent or knowledge. As a result clever is more important than your outlook.

Secondly, clever helps you to solve problems. Once you got some hard problems, the less clever person could may get shocked with it and become standstill, or cannot solve it. Clever person could solve those hard problems rapidly and reduce the time spent. In a more serious conditions, such as divorcing problems, people may feel hopeless and commit suicide if they could not solve it. Clever helps in this condition, it solves the problem. Even clever person cannot solve the problems, they may understand that the problem has been a fact and cannot be changed, they had to face the problems. As a result clever is more important than what you looks like.

In conclusion, clever helps you to solve problems and makes you a successful person. Beautiful or handsome only represents you outlook and you cannot get anything good obviously. Clever is more important than beautiful or handsome.

Yours faithfully,
Chris Wong

In this lab simulation, we studied the different factors that go into natural selection. These factors were things such as: fertility, the complexity of genes, the use of natural selection versus not using it, and the rate of mutation. All of these things would then affect the amount of generations it would take to get the “target phrase.” This target phrase was used as a tool to understand the complexity of some genes compared to the simplicity of others. The first chapter in Dawkins’ book, “The Blind Watchmaker,” correlates the most when it comes to what we studied in the lab. In the first chapter, he describes that complex things such as animals must have been made by design. However, he also explains that this designer is…

A book called “Mindset” by Carol S. Dweck talks about how there are two types of mindsets a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. She explains that ‘“a fixed mindset places undue importance on appearances — looking talented or “smart” at all costs and with very little apparent effort — whereas a growth mindset focuses on continual learning and improving”’ (Stanford.edu). As you can see the two different types of mindsets focus on two completely different things, while one does not want to use much effort while the other is striving to improve themselves and try their hardest to achieve their dreams. She also explains how “it’s not always the people who start out the smartest who end up the smartest, effortless achievement may result in high marks initially, but fails when faced with challenge” (Stanford.edu). This true as well if something is just given to someone they won’t truly appreciate it, because they did not earn it though their hard…

In contrast, knowledge brings many benefits as well as power. Obtaining as much knowledge as possible allows people to become wise instead of being a fool. Wisdom opens doors to many opportunities in life that "beautiful little fools" can only dream about. If one wants to go farther than the average person in life, knowledge is a necessity. The successful people of the higher class are hard working scholars, not oblivious fools. James Madison says that "Knowledge will forever govern…

What does it mean to be well educated or to be “smart”? Standardized tests are one-dimensional but the beauty of people is that we are all unique and creative in our mind-set. Smith (2002), a Rank Research Fellow and Tutor at YMCA George Williams College Gardner, defines intelligence through Howard Gardner’s seven multiple theories: linguistic, logical, musical, kinesthetic, spatial, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. He claims that “people have a unique blend of intelligences” and that our biggest challenge “is how best to take advantage of the uniqueness conferred on us as a species exhibiting several intelligences” (p. 1). It is a rare gift to obtain all seven intelligences, thus we must…
