Psychology is the study of the human mind, its functions and behaviour. It tries to explain the way we act and the way we are. The behaviourism theory is primarily concerned with observable behaviour, as opposed to internal events like thinking and emotion. The social learning theory is where an individual is introduced to other individuals which may have different actions and behaviour which the individual may learn off. The biological theory is where theorists believe that emotions and actions are passed through genetics and they look at the way an individual’s parents and grandparents to see if the behaviour and actions are the same within the family or not. The psychodynamic theory is the human functioning based on the interaction of drives and forces within the individual. The cognitive theory is the concept that if we want to know what makes an individual react to an object we learn the internal process of their mind. Similar to global psychology, the cross-cultural approach to psychology encompass a universal or etic paradigm of human functionality (p. 9). While cross-cultural psychology is viewed as an umbrella for the cultural model and ethnic studies, cultural perspectives differ in their approach to cultural analysis. Moreover, “[b]ecause cultural psychology entails the investigation of a single culture, rather than cultural comparison, cultural psychologist adheres to a relativist or emic perspective of human functioning” (Stevens, 2007, as cited in Stevens & Gielen, 2007, p. 9). Furthermore, the cultural perspective hones in on processes related to meaning making, such as the bidirectional relationship between a specific culture and psychological characteristics as they relate to language, myths, symbols, traditions and socially constructed phenomena (Triandis, 2000a, as cited in Stevens & Gielen 2007, p.…

Although there are several different perspectives used to describe, predict, and explain human behavior I think the main three that stuck out to me and was more interesting to me where the Behavioral perspective, Humanistic perspective and the Psychodynamic perspective. Behaviorism grew due to a Russian psychologist named Ivan Pavlov. This perspective is based on behavior in which it states that psychologist should focus more its scientific studies on overt behavior which means that it can be measured and verified. Humanistic was founded by an American Carls Rogers. Humanistic was more different then some of the other perspectives it had more to do with the conscious side of clients other than the unconscious side of them. Psychodynamic was studied and developed by a Physician in Austria named Sigmund Freud. This was studied with unconscious clients but was focused more on personality and behavior.…

Wayne Dyer once said, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” The different perspectives in psychology help psychologists understand behavior and mental processes because there is no correct point of view; it is all assumptions and opinions. Although some perspectives seem “more right” in comparison to others, they all have unique attributes, assumptions and beliefs that help psychologists understand human behavior. The contemporary psychological perspectives include: the biological view, developmental view, cognitive view, psychodynamic view, humanistic view, behavioral view, sociocultural view, evolutionary view and trait view. Each perspective has strengths and weaknesses, but all nine of views contributed…

More specifically, neuroscience refers to the study of the nervous system, especially the brain. The Psychodynamic Perspective psychodynamic perspective may or may not follow Freud or take a psychoanalytic approach. The psychodynamic perspective focuses on the effects of unconscious factors effecting the nature in which we behave. This perspective also focuses on the relationship of childhood experiences effecting adulthood thinking and actions. This theory has many benefits such as being able to provide explanations for the various human behaviors. By looking back at childhood experiences it is believed with the psychodynamic perspective you will be able to find an explanation for the behavior in question. This perspective also has a comprehensive framework to describe the different human personalities. Part of this framework includes the theory of personality having three structures, the id, the ego, and the superego. The…
