12 Hours Break Research Paper
Hourly Employees Clocking out for Lunch At one point or another, we’ve all held a job where we had to punch a time clock. It can be seemingly frustrating to get in the habit of tracking your time on a daily basis. In most cases relating to this type of employment, you are allotted a specific amount of time for lunch, maybe even at a specific time of day. What if your employer told you that you had to clock out for lunch, but still expected you to work while you were off the clock? Not only is this unethical, but also downright unfair because employees need a break from work, it lowers moral, and respect for management diminishes.
Having a Well Deserved Break Stress will always be present at work, regardless of what type of industry you

I was working in administration in the health care industry. I realize this is a very high pace, ever changing field, but I wasn’t exactly on the front lines. The schedule was a rough one to begin with, consulting with 12 hour shifts. Colorado law states that employees shall be entitled to an uninterrupted and 'duty free ' meal period of at least a thirty minute duration when the scheduled work shift exceeds five consecutive hours of work (Colorado Department of Labor & Employment). We were only allowed a half hour maximum lunch before needing to return. This was difficult because that’s such a short break comparing to the length of the shift, but I learned to adjust. As I continued to work there, the responsibilities kept piling on top of me to the point where it wasn’t easy for me to manage by myself. It started getting to the point where my boss would ask me to do stuff while I was on lunch. After several weeks of this, I confronted him, saying that it’s not alright that I’m expected to work while on lunch. It was a rough job, and I looked forward to relaxing for a bit during my …show more content…
I noticed that my attitude really started to change while I was at work. I wasn’t happy, and I started to have that sense of dread driving in every morning. It was a very demanding job, and I never seemed to get any sort of break from it. This type of work environment really starts to take a toll on a person, mentally and physically (Hall, 2013). This also leads to poorer performance while on the job, which my boss was not happy with. You really start to struggle to find anything positive when you’re in this kind of position.
Having Respect for Your Boss is Important As time went on, I really did lose all respect for my boss. I was trying desperately to find other work, but it wasn’t going my way. It’s really hard to complete the simplest things, when they are assigned to you by someone who you don’t respect. I am much happier to do a difficult task for someone I respect, than to a simply one for someone who I don’t respect. My boss started to realize this as well, which created these awkward tensions whenever we had to interact with one another. Patients can sense this kind of stuff, and it even came up in some monthly patient reviews that the employees seemed drained.

When I started my first job in an eye clinic, I was hired to work the front desk of the main office along with three other ladies. I was the youngest at 22 , one gal was about 5 years older than myself, and the other two were in their early 60's. One of the older ladies had worked there a significant amount of time while the other two and myself were hired at the same time. There was an initial friction between one of the older ladies and my younger co-worker and myself. We thought she was bossy and tried to micro-manage us even though she was not in a supervisory position. She also would try and tell us how the older patients liked to be spoken to. After a while, management stepped in to try and mediate the conflict. As it turned out, my bossy co-worker was simply taught her work ethic and interpersonal skills in a different era. She felt more senior than my co-worker and I because she was older, with more life experience. She also thought that being from an older generation herself, that she knew how to communicate better with our patients. We were all trying to help our patients, do our jobs well, and effectively communicate, but our different backgrounds and significant difference in age, were creating an interpersonal conflict.…

When I was a young nurse it seemed like problems I saw were continually put on a back burner or not treated fairly. It’s important to be accountable for mistakes. I have worked on a surgical floor for 16 years. On occasion we will be pulled to another unit if they are really short. I was pulled to an oncology floor when I had been an RN for about 3 years. I was not familiar with the chemo drugs and their schedules. But my med sheet had times listed when to hang certain things so I didn’t ask the charge nurse but went about hanging my drugs. Later in the day the oncologist saw what happened and threw a huge fit. I wasn’t told specifically what I’d done wrong but just that I was incompetant and he didn’t want me ever taking care of his patients again. That was hard to hear because most of the time I was told I was great to be around and a great asset to my unit. I asked the charge nurse what I done wrong. She said certain things weren’t compatible and that I had put the patient at risk but she also told me not to worry, she wouldn’t “report” me. She just kept poo pooing me and told me she would take care of things. It literally seemed like everything was just swept under a rug. Later after my shift was over I went back down to my floor and talked with my clinical educator about what happened. She used to work oncology so I knew she would understand that units procedures. She was upset that I was assigned a chemo patient to…

It is always best to try to stay in a positive mood at work, because a negative mood can increase aggressive tendencies. The affective events theory is quite true and identifiable as a CNA. For example, perhaps I flunked a test right before a shift, I go into work and pretend everything is okay, but it takes one elder to compliment me on my work, or even my hair to lift my spirits. As a result of this positive event at work, I would now have a positive emotional experience. It is likely that my job performance will be influenced the rest of the shift. Also, the cohesiveness and teamwork of fellow employees will affect job performance and satisfaction. For instance, if for the third day in a row the first shift employees do not get their scheduled baths done, the second shift employees will be under constant stress to pick up the slack. This stress will fester and cause negative emotion overload.…

The Civil War in America was, in fact, inevitable. There were many disputes over the politics, economics, and culture of slavery both in the White House and in the Supreme Court. The South was very persistent about wanting to keep slavery and they even wanted it to spread in to the North. The North disagreed completely however and wanted it to just be completely abolished throughout all of America.…

John Krumboltz once said, “You have control over your own actions and how you think about the events that impact your life. None us can control the outcomes, but your actions can increase the probability that desired outcomes will occur. There are no guarantees in life. The only guarantee is that doing nothing will get you nowhere.” (Krumboltz, 46). In this short exert from his book titled Luck is no Accident, 10 Ways to get More out of Work and Life, Krumbolz discusses the importance of making the most out of opportunities that may seem little or pointless, and that happiness doesn’t depend on any external conditions, but instead, it is governed by our mental attitude. Throughout my life, I have only had a few jobs because I didn’t start working until I was almost 18, but I have always strived to have the best attitude when working. My first job ever was at Coldstone Creamery, and there were many times that I had to deal with people that were rude and inconsiderate. Krumbolz talks about controlling what you can, and letting go of what you can’t, which is exactly what I tried doing when working there and dealing with these kinds of people.…

Some Sumer activities that I like to do or achieve for the school break are having fun with my friends and family and play. On really hot days we go down to the lake and play in the water or go fishing. I also like to play with my dog and go for walks with her if I'm not dragging her all the way there and back. Sometimes I do work with my dad most of the times it involves a lot of elbow grease. I love to do fun activities with my mom that does relate a little work, at the end she gets us a treat. On the days I'm not doing anything I go out with friends or they come to my house, and if I'm good we go to get air, other wise, we just watch movies and relax. On other days when we are in the garden I like to swim, maybe even play with the sprinklers and bother my brothers.…
