Read the HurryDate case. Assume you are a venture capital (VC) fund manager, considering an investment in HurryDate. Consider the following: (1) How does HurryDate create value? What are the key success and risk factors associated with this firm and industry?
Host dating events in major cities throughout the US that allow single adults to meet one another. Additionally, presents an opportunity for interested companies to sponsor events with specific and unique demographic angle.
Success factors include building a reputation as a trusted host for these events. Convincing single adults that this is a viable option to meet people.
Risk Factors include: major internet players (ie facebook) join this limited market and dominate the industry with their resources and brand equity. Young adults decide that this is “uncool” and the industry loses customer popularity. Low barriers to entry for many small niche, local players. Sponsors could determine it is not a good use of marketing budget.

(2) Where do the financial statements reflect these success and risk factors?
Facebook risks can be seen in marketing expenses (peak at 600k and recently 150k). This modest amount of marketing will never compete with the brand recognition that facebook currently possesses
Low barriers to entry can be seen in modest rent fees, scalable wage expenses and moderate operation fees. These are all not significantly different that the initial year.
Promos currently equate to roughly 20% of Revenues (and have significantly lower COGS) – ie greater than 20% impact on NI

(3) How has HurryDate performed in the past? What key metrics can be used to evaluate the company’s success?
Revenue from events decreasing annually since 2003
Revenue from sponsorships increasing since 2002
SGA relatively constant since 2003 spike
Net Income 345k, 392k, in the last two years

I came into this scene when I went to reave called “Awakening” in 2008.After I attended this rave with some friends I decided I wanted to experience more of the rave scene and so I did. This so called rave scene has its own culture and community. When you become part of the scene you start to notice fellow ravers start speaking about P.L.U.R. which sounds like a mission statement. What it stands for is peace, love, unity, and respect. When you go to raves you can tell ravers follow this so called mission statement because they are friendly, giving, and helpful with whatever you need. Another thing I liked when I went to raves was when ravers were switching kandi with other fellow ravers. Kandi is a bracelet made out of beads. These bracelets are a symbol of unity between one another.…

The article “Bucking, the trend” written by Gayatri Parameswaran illuminates how rodeos are a big part of America’s history and culture, rodeos make people and families who they are and make traditions, as well as harm the animals used in the events. To start this off, how rodeos would be a big part of America’s history and culture by being with us since after the Civil War. The rodeo truly gained some attention in the beginning of the 1920s, to save the “Wild West” part of America. The paraphrase reveals that most rodeos truly gained popularity in certain times, and not really before then. Moreover, as well as rodeos being a big part of America’s history and culture, rodeos also make people who they are, and stay in families blood as traditions.…

    1. The online dating industry is very competitive. There are a handful of dating websites such as match.com, EHarmony and OkCupid. These online websites are extremely popular and put up a good fight when compared to Plenty of Fish (PoF). Having been a past member of both PoF and OkCupid, it is tough for me to choose which one I prefer because they are both free and I enjoyed using them while I was out “playing the field”. With the tech world evolving so fast, the competition is growing at record-breaking speeds and the dating space has a lot more techies and startups trying to penetrate the market and innovate the next best app. Smartphones allow people to do almost everything they can do on a computer on their phone, including accessing dating websites. Over the past several years, mobile applications have been the new hot thing in the market. Old and new dating innovators picked up on this trend, and now you often hear about another dating app that has been launched and gaining traction. In order for PoF to compete with the new apps they also created an app, but they are still facing competition from similar types of apps that offer free dating opportunities and are targeting a younger market. Some of those apps are Tinder, Hinge and Coffee Meets Bagel. Although these apps are somewhat similar to one another, people are still using them instead of PoF because its concept allows you to meet someone much quicker and with less effort. In these apps all you have to do is swipe to the right or the left depending on whether you are interested or attracted to the person on the screen. This process makes it easier because you don’t have to personally browse through a list of people. Today’s generation wants to do everything fast and expects instant results. That is the main reason these types of dating apps are a big hit. Other dating websites are not the sole competition that PoF faces. Social media sites such as Facebook and MeetUp…
