This classroom has three teachers; a lead teacher, an assistant teacher and a teacher aide that work together to teach a classroom of fourteen children. The ratio of children for one teacher is eight. Having the classroom organized and ready with age appropriate material before children come in for the day helps in keeping the children engaged and learning at the same time which in turn helps with the behavior issues. That will in turn provide a more positive learning environment for…
In the first video at John Smith Middle school, on Friday, April fifteenth at 12 pm, the classroom observed was in Mrs. Blue’s middle school class. This class was not as ethnically diverse; there were only Caucasian and Hispanics visible. From what was shown there were eleven boys and ten girls. In the second video at Luther High school, on Wednesday, April thirteenth at 11 am, was Mr. G’s high school class. This was a larger ethnically diverse class, with ethnicity ranging from, African American, and Hispanic. There were relatively ten boys and eight girls.…
Typically within-class grouping would come into play during math and reading lessons. Depending on my class size and need, I would divide my class into three to four colored named groups. These groups would consist of below average students in one group, average ability students in a second group and above average in the third group. Depending on each group would determine what kind of work they received. The above average students would receive lesson work based slightly above what is currently being taught. They would also be expected to work out the problems with little to no help from the teacher. This allows the teacher to better focus on the other two groups. The average ability group would receive work based on the current lesson with moderate interaction from me. They also would be expected to work together to help learn from one another. The third group being below average would require the most attention. They would also receive work that was slightly behind the current lesson but in line to catch them up to the current lesson. I would spend time with them each day explaining the work and answering questions. The pace for this third group would vary but I would try to keep it at a brisk rate so that they have the chance to catch up with the rest of the class.…
I have really enjoyed my practicum hours, observing and learning from the counselors at West High School. Many of my observations surrounded graduation and A-G requirements. Several of the counselors were going through the transcripts of their sophomores and juniors to see if they were still on track to graduate. Then, they would call in those they needed to meet with and talk to them individually. The solution for several that I sat in with was to add a zero period class. The counselors took two days to call in all of the English classes. They went over the differences between high school graduation requirements and A-G requirements needed to enter a CSU or UC school. Then, we handed out their transcripts, went over their gpa, and…
In this paper, I chose to observe the toddler room. I picked Beau; he has brown hair with hazel eyes. He is 33 months old. He weighs 33 pounds and is 38 inches tall.…
In this paper I will discuss an observation and the developmental needs of a small group of older twos. First I will discuss the observation of Mrs. Nicole’s two-year-old classroom. Which focus on the social-emotional atmosphere and the challenging behaviors. Next I will focus on the social-emotional atmosphere, the curriculum and the proposed objectives. The objectives support the curriculum, which can be a major part of a child’s development.…
The first hour and a half I spent observing Mrs. Ballardo kindergarten classroom. The type of lesson that I am observing is Math Cooperative groups and the objective that is being worked on in this lesson is that the students can show that they know the numbers by counting dots on a die. When walking into the classroom I immediately felt like this was a class that promoted learning. It felt so welcoming, and the mood of the children were great they were all sitting on the rug and ready to learn. The classroom is arranged with the five tables. When you first walk into the classroom there are two…

This object that is important to me is from my Pre-K teacher Mrs. Judy. My book is wrinkled and bent. It also has the aroma of Kindergarten every time you open the book. It is also titled Clifford the Big Red Dog Goes to School.…
In the Pre-K classroom I have been observing the past couple of weeks, I did Instrument 7.5 which is Visual Indicator and Oral Indicatior and Occurences which is how often Mrs. Valentine does something. Visual Indicators are certain things such as how many times does shes write on the board, uses overhead, points to or holds up a visual picture of something, shows a slide or film, demonstrates with model or equipment and other visual aspects. Oral indicators are providing or asking for examples, telling a illustrative story, recalls personal experience, relates a lesson to the past, poses a problem, compare and contrast something or other.…
The purpose of this experience was to observe a middle school. The purpose of the assignment was to determine the ways in which the middle school worked to meet the needs of the unique middle school learners. The middle school I visited was very effective in meeting the needs of middle schoolers. The school has interdisplinary teams who worked together to create instruction and help to offer the best learning opportunities for their students. The teachers gave excellent and effective lessons that motivated students. The classrooms were also student centered and accounted for different learning styles in the classroom.…
While I was observing Ms. Carrilo’s Pre-K classroom and interacting with the students, I saw that all three types of play— guided, spontaneous, and teacher directed play—was being used. After we all went inside of the classroom and settled down from being outside, half of the students went with the teacher assistant to the work area and half of the students stayed with the mentor teacher, Ms. Carrilo, at the carpet/block area. Ms. Carrilo said that she wanted one of the UTSA students to stay with her and the other UTSA student to go with the teacher assistant. I went with the teacher assistant to the work area and my UTSA partner, Alexis, stayed with Ms. Carrilo in the carpet/block area.…
Once again, I was placed in Mrs.Metcalfe who teaches second grade at Bens Branch Elementary. Mrs.Metcalfe took attendance while the students waited patiently on the carpet. After she took attendance, she addressed that she had taken some privileges away from the students because the students did not picked up their mess after having centers and would not follow instructions that the teacher gave. She explained that centers might return for the upcoming school year if they behaved properly. After she addressed the issues of the students, she instructed everyone to go back to their desks and waited till they put their thumbs which meant that they were ready for the lesson of the day. Mrs.Metcalfe went up to the front of the class to use the projector and expected her students to follow what she was doing on their worksheets.…
Middle school is significantly different from high school; the middle school I went to is small compared to Ridgeview which has far more opportunities. Ridgeview has presented itself to be stronger, more demanding, and far more open. A few things that have been demonstrated to be far more taxing are band, different classes, and the method of accomplishment.…
Sixth grade is a wonderful year for students. The students have transitioned from the elementary school to the middle school. This transition can be both scary for the sixth grade teachers and their students. This week I had the opportunity to observe a fellow coworker teaching sixth graders social studies. To the least, I was impressed. This teacher really has things together. He is a second year teacher, and is familiar with the Charlotte Danielson’s framework. However, I do remember the framework frightening him last year. Yet, this year he is a more comfortable and engaging teacher.…
