Explain why physical activity is important to the short and long term health and well being of children
The short term health benefits are that it helps release children’s energy, to reduce their stress and frustration levels which in turn can lead to lowering their blood pressure. When children play outside the sunlight gives them vitamin D to help their immune system. It can also reduce anxiety and prevent obesity from the physical activity. The long term benefits include that it helps children to develop strong bones and muscles. Children who partake in physical activity are less likely to become overweight or develop type 2 diabetes. It helps children to form positive attitudes for the future and helps give children positive habits for the future.

Explain the development of movement skills in young children and how these skills affect other aspects of development.
a. Travel (travelling movements where the child moves from one point to another, such as running, jumping, skipping)
When children find it hard to travel they could find it hard to make friends as they can’t do the activity. Some children can become emotionally frustrated as they can’t do the activity.
b. Object control (movements such as throwing, catching, dribbling, which involve objects being sent, received, travelled with)
This can help with hand and eye coordination. It also helps them gain awareness of how to use their body’s for throwing and catching. This also gives children a chance to help develop their fine motor skills. Been able to take part in activity’s help children fit in socially.

Explain the importance of natural outdoor environments for young children’s physical activity and movement skills.
Natural outdoor environments provide children with the opportunity to experience the changing weather and seasons. It can also give children a chance to see insects in their natural environment. Having the outdoor environments gives children the chance to gain the knowledge and understanding of the world around them. It also gives children the chance to have the freedom and the space that they might not normally get. It can help children become physically active and encourages aspects of learning and development. It also offers them the chance to explore the outdoors/world around them.

Explain how the plan (3.1 work product):
a. Meets the individual movement skills needs of children
Children need movement skills to help in all aspects of life. We need to plan activities that suit the individual’s needs whether they have limited control or what their age is. We should provide an inclusive approach to accommodate participation by all children. We should help children to progress on to the next stage of development by providing them with challenging skills and helping them develop new skills.
b. Includes activities that promote competence in movement skills
To help children gain confidence in movement skills we should use a range of indoor and outdoor activities. By providing children with activity’s that promote movement we are encouraging them to use their gross and fine motor skills and to develop their coordination skills. We can use a range of activities such as swimming, games, dance, small and large play equipment we promote movement skills.
c. Encourages physical play
We should encourage physical play activities and make them stimulating, challenging but safe and age appropriate. We should always provide children with a positive approach and be a good role model. We can do this by taking part in physical play and activities. We should always promote physical play as fun and provide adequate space, opportunities, resources and equipment.

Explain the importance of building physical activity into everyday routines
By building physical activities in to daily routines we are building good habits for life such as hanging up coats when coming in to the setting, washing are hands before we eat or when we have used the toilet.
By helping promote these we are setting a routine and helping build hand eye coordination. If we make activities fun children will want to participate and not see them as tasks. It can also help teach the children numeracy and sequencing by matching colures and counting. By helping teach children some simple skills we are helping them build their life skills.

Reflect on own practice in supporting young children’s physical development and movement skills.
I help the setting by doing observations on children and I work with children who need a more structured time in the setting. I interact with children within play I give the children positive praise. I have improved my confidence by interacting more with parents and colleagues. I have been observed by my tutor well doing my level 2 cypw and I received positive feedback and reassurance that what I’m doing and how I work is good. In weekly planning I help plan activity’s that provide physical activities. I work in the setting with an open mind and open to ideas. I can seek alternatives in helping children play and understand. I also look at what happened and can analysis what went well or not too well. In the setting I use a reflective journal so I know what I need to change or what worked
well.
