It was also at school
where I learned the value of community service first hand from the annual community service projects that I have participated and fell in love with. It began in first grade during my first Trash-A-Thon. I was so proud of all the trash that we had picked up and I looked forward to it every year. I also have yet to miss one. This coming May will be my tenth year picking up trash along the roads of Athens. This is what first taught me the value of community service. Incoinendecly, school and community led me to leadership roles that I slowly grew into. Leadership to me is not being afraid to do the right thing and being willing to help anyone in need. You don’t always have to be first or best, just willing and courageous enough to step up. I’ve always been a leader whether it be in school, helping teach my classmates or setting an example for my young cousins. It’s something that I take pride in and always will be a defining piece of me.
As for the final pillar of National Honor Society, character, I do not have much to say, except that character is defined by what you do and how you react in tough situations. It’s keeping promises and working hard at everything you do. Thank you for your time, consideration and the opportunity to join the National Honor Society.
