Argument Essay The topic of gay marriage has always been controversial. Anytime the idea of same sex couples being allowed to marry is brought up there’s almost always an argument started. It’s viewed by many as wrong and many think it should remain illegal, but why? If two people are happy, no matter the gender, why should anything stop them from marrying? Male and female, male and male, or female and female, it shouldn’t matter; if they’re happy and want to marry, let them. Most often the idea of gay marriage is viewed as wrong because of religion. In the bible it states that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Although the bible was written a very long time ago and I believe people’s views change. Personally, I go to church and I am still for gay marriage. I can agree with the bible until it comes to that point. If two people are happy then why not let them. How does it affect what you are doing? In today’s society, the thought of fitting in and being normal over powers happiness, which is pretty stupid. With that kind of mentality, being that one gay person would make you weird and you wouldn’t fit in. Here is an interesting fact I came across on the internet, and that I think holds a strong message: Same sex marriage is legally recognized in Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain and Norway. So why can’t the United States of America agree to this simple act? It’s because of those people who aren’t happy and can’t see themselves being happy that it can’t happen. Let people be happy whether they are gay or straight. You should never judge a person by who they are holding hands with. In the 2000 census it was found that there were 601,209 committed gay couples in America. The fact that people are willing to admit this in a country against it is very empowering to the situation. In places where gay marriage is allowed, the divorce rate is very low and continues to get lower and
