To begin, with more time in class students have much more time in class to ask questions. In class with only having 49 minutes teachers do not have enough time in class to get through everything they need to and still answer students questions. Asking questions is a important part in the learning process and is one of the key ways to learn. Therefore a 6 hour block will improve learning. Also, a 6 hour block will improve students grades. EJMHS students do not have the best grades. In fact this year on the NWEA testing there was almost a 20 point difference in understanding reading, and reading. This is a big issue. If students are able to have more time in class students will be able to take more in during class and be able to keep up. It is also hard to keep up at the pace that some of the teachers are going at now. It will improve the schedule because it will eliminate unneeded electives, sync with other schools schedules, and extend prep hour. It will improve learning by giving the students the ability to ask questions, improve grades, and stay caught up. It will improve productivity by more time to grade and more time to learn. As a East Jordan public school board member, you have the power to overall improve schooling for the students. The 7 hour school schedule does not work. The school board members must change the schedule so there are only 6 classes in one day and only 6 classes for each student's schedule. It is the school board member’s job to make sure that students are getting all the education that they need in the best way possible. It makes the most sense to schedule classes this way. This schedule allows for a better learning experience and a healthier schedule for the student body. So please, for the benefit of the student body, pick the obvious choice, and switch to a 6 hour

I robustly believe that the school hour should start later in the day. Eisenhower High School needs to change the early hour they start at so students can perform their academic best. Unquestionably, many students are not learning all they can due to lack of sleep. Studies have shown that students brains do not wake up or start working until later in the morning. It is recommended that students get 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep each night, but many students get less hours than what is recommended.…

It helps them gather more college credit too. It can help them get college credit with the extra class periods they may if they are close to meeting all their graduation requirements. In a block schedule you could get your graduation requirements done in 2 and a half school years while in an eight period day you don't have as much time in a class. Block classes can be anywhere from 60- 90 minutes while traditional classes may only be 40-50 minutes long and you have the same 7-9 classes all year or some may switch at the semester.…

Changing the five day school week has been argued for and against due the controversy as to whether or not it would actually be beneficial to students and teachers. When approaching the idea, many people would like to believe that five day school weeks are the most efficient and productive way to educate our youth. What is often overlooked, however, is that it is causing students to dread school more than they already do, and lessen their willingness to be in or attentive at school. Not only this, but many teachers easily get behind on either grading or lesson planning, while the school could actually save money when switching to this schedule. By refreshing the way the school schedule has previously been, we can address the issue of exhausted students who don 't truly learn anything, teachers who are overwhelmed with work and the economic questions within America 's schools. Providing both students and teachers with a more equal week of break and school time by having Wednesdays off will make students more willing to attend school, give the teachers time to furnish their lesson plans and give the school a break in costs.…

High school classes should begin later in the day and end later in the day to accommodate students' natural sleep clocks, this would get them on a schedule and would also allow them to stay energized through they whole day. Schools should end later in the day so that when students get home, they won't have time to take a nap, which tend to make people stay up later then they need to. Teenagers need lots of sleep and by beginning and ending the classes later would make that a lot easier! If schools were to open up later in the day then students would pay more attention in their classes; They would be more alert and awake. Students ask themselves “why does school have to start so early?” on a daily basis without receiving an answer. Usually, teens find it difficult to fall asleep early and get their 8 hours of sleep, therefore the next day they wake up early, and they're tired all day at school. That is a norm for middle and high school students, and it shouldn’t be. School start times are too early, and need to be change to a later time in order for students to get their full 8 hours of rest.…

Many students are familiar with block scheduling where students go to four classes for an hour and a half each day. These extended classes jam material all into one class period. Most students have trouble paying attention while lessons are crammed down their throats without receiving any breaks either. Block scheduling would be ideal if a class material was spread throughout the year. By shortening each class, teachers should use the first half to teach and the second half to help the students apply what they learned. Students then can be given a reasonable amount of…

As a High school and even middle school student, I had always found that having classes as early as 7:30a.m. really affected my mood, and levels of sleepiness, and work ethic. In the late 50′s and all throughout the 60′s, it was common for most schools to start between 8:30-9:00, and even then, students had trouble staying awake. By 2000, many high schools were starting at 7:30 or earlier, hindering the academic abilities of many students because of the extremely early start times. Some school districts have taken action by having schools start later, however traditions; even those that are bad, are difficult to change, leading to many other school districts refusing to have high schools start later in the morning and end later in the afternoon.…

This method of teaching kids started in 2002 when school boards had the idea starting school at a later time. So students can get a better experience at school…

High school students now-a-days get way too much homework to keep up with all of it with sports, other school work, and family/friends. The point is- East Jordan High School must give their students less homework due to the negative social, educational, and emotional impact. To begin, East Jordan High School must give students less homework because it it can have a negative impact on students socially. It would be bad idea to add an extra one an half hour because there would be no time for extracurricular activities, older siblings wouldn’t be able to get their younger brother/ or sister off the elementary school bus, and schools would have to provide a snack for the children because it would interfere with families early dinner time. Can the school afford this? It is very important for families to have family time because families should have a strong bond. Also, kids should have time to get out their energy and have fun instead of learning for nine hours a day. Here are my reasons on why the School Board should not change school hours.…

One of the reasons we think the school start time should stay the same is because it will make the time commitment of participating in after school activities more difficult to manage. All of us, like many other students, participate in after school activities. A later school start time will mean that school activities will start later and run even later than they do now. The later in the day it gets, the less energy we have to give 100% effort mentally. We will also be more physically tired which means if…
