Many people believed that the Twin Towers would never collapse and that it was invincible due to the complexity of its structure. The North Tower was constructed in December 1970, followed shortly by the South Tower in January 1972. The complex design of the World Trade Center was conceived as an urban renewal project and were used to restore confidence and help bring a halt to the decline of lower Manhattan. The 9/11 terrorist attack was a series of four attacks on the United States on the morning of September 11, 2001. The attacks killed 2,996 people, injured over 6,000 others, and cost at least $10 billion in property damage and infrastructure. The greatest factor that contributed to the loss of life of 9/11 was the construction of the towers…
Memorials or monuments are important because they are a symbol or reminder of life changing events or lost loved ones. For example, the 9/11 monument is a remembrance of a tragic event that happened in 2001 when terrorists attacked and around 3,000 people were killed. Although the memorial is not a bad thing it can be closure for families who have lost someone, also it is a reminder to take more precautions to prevent things like this happening in the future. The 9/11 monument also recognizes the many people who lived through this tragic event.…
Hearing the event from the perspective of a person who wasn’t directly affected or near the crash introduces a whole new type of experience. People, who like my parents, only received notice of the crash because of a family member they had no idea was in any kind of danger. My parents, at the time, weren’t aware of the importance of the Twin Towers or this possibility of a new worry of terrorism. They were able to be reassured simply by the fact that every loved one in the U.S then was okay. This particular perspective added to my knowledge of the personal experiences of the event, how the impact of the event can immediately increase because of a loved one being involved. Another detail from the interview that added to my knowledge was my mom…
Mr. Mackley began to write on the board again, with the marker speaking every few seconds. When he was done, I immediately read the new question. What do you know about 9/11? If I was honest with myself, I would say, not much.…
The official account of 9-11 does not give a sound explanation of where any extremely hot…
I was standing in front of the North Pool of 9/11 Memorial with my friends. A blurry animation of a moment was forming in my memory. I was thrown back to Tehran, Iran, 2001 when I was an Afghan refugee escaping from a massacre by the hands of Taliban from being a Hazara - an ethnic minority. I saw the Twin Towers on a black and white TV. I saw how they collapsed and disappeared in the dust. The magnitude of the collapse took me back to July 2015. I was struggling to make a bigger picture of my identity in my mind.…
When Immortal Technique rapped about Bush knocking down the towers, it was nothing more than a moonshot conspiracy and a damn good song. A recent 911 theory by an Australian conspiracy theorist has just game out. Not only does it support Immortal Techniques claim, but it takes it one step forward and adds aliens.…
When we got back, we took time to relax and follow the news. As we sat there, we had to listen to horrific facts about this event. They told us that approximately 3,000 people had lost their lives(Friedman 51) 9/11 caused 1,600 extra deaths due to traffic accidents(Kick ass facts). The news reporter broke the news that in the North Tower 1,402 people died, in the South Tower 614 people died, in Flight 11 ninety-two people died, in the United Airlines Flight sixty five people died, 345 firefighters/ paramedics and sixty police were killed(O’Keefe 18). As soon as I heard that, I broke down in…
3.000 people were killed on that day, the single largest loss of life from a foreign attack…
Never in my life had I seen a woman quite as beautiful as her. I woke up on the morning of September 11, 2001 and looked at my wife still sleeping next to me. I took a moment to revel in her beauty, and think about what it would be like to be a father. Irene was eight months pregnant with a little boy. I had no doubts that she would be an outstanding mother, but i doubted myself. I'm a firefighter, I'm never home. What if I wasn't the best dad? So many things rushed my mind, but I pushed them aside and began gathering my things to head to work. It was only 5 o'clock so I was very careful not to wake my sleeping wife. She was exhausted and I knew it, so my intentions were to let her rest. I've never regretted anything more than not waking her on that morning. I walked out my front door without so much as an "I Love You." or a "Goodbye sweetie, have a good day!" I was gone to work, gone to Squad 252 of the FDNY.…
I anxiously wait for my teacher Mrs. Lane to pass back our spelling tests from Monday. It was now Tuesday so that meant that whoever did exceptionally well got to pick a sparkly pencil out of the jar that twinkled with glitter. I peeked over my Power Puff Girl glasses to try to sneak a peek just as I noticed Mrs. Burns run into the classroom frantically. She was the other second grade teacher, and she always seemed to be excited over the smallest of things. Except, this time she is frightened and her face has panic written all over it. The intercom suddenly boomed dramatically over us with the principal’s bewildered order that asked us to get underneath our desks and cover our heads. Mrs. Lane spoke with her voice wavering, she said that airplanes were crashing into buildings because there were bad people who wanted to hurt us. Salty tears hit my chapped lips as I worried about my big brother who was down the hall in his fifth grade classroom. I wanted to crawl and hide with him but as I took a hesitant step we were told to form a line by the door. We are now in the school’s basement which…
On September 11th, hundreds gathered in lower Manhattan in remembrance of the events 15 years ago at the World Trade Center and to honor the thousands of lives that were lost due to the attacks. The ceremony began early in the day with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus singing the national anthem, and throughout there were six moment of silences all signifying a hit or strike to the Towers, Pentagon or plane crash. Most families were comforted by being in the presence of other grieving families and others who get how they were feeling. Although being with others who felt the same, some said the commemoration brought back painful memories. While for many of the families the area surrounding the WTC site remain a place of solitude, the recent changes to the area had some at unease and others not. In March, the World Trade Center transit hub opened to the public, in August a a shopping complex was…
After I had a sip of my coffee, I looked out the window; it must have been 09:00 by then. I started checking my paper work and suddenly, I heard a plane roaring in the sky, its main route was pointed at us. In the seconds to go I instructed my fellow colleagues to sit down and brace themselves to something that could save their lives.…
By the time I was near work, New York had woken up and entered the streets. The diving between the people was mayhem. I finally I got to work, at the twin towers, walking up the stairs to the 94th floor. To get todays assignments; Bumping into my boss on the way up. It wasn’t until I had just sat down I had caught something in the corner of my eye but the moment I looked at the object it was too late, a huge, snow white plane has heading straight for the tower. I ran raising all alarms for the soon impact but they already knew. About half of the workers on 94th floor had got to safety before it hit straight through the 86th floor, setting alight everything in its path.…
