A Career In Nursing
Nursing may seem like an easy job, but it is a very hands on job that may not be for everyone. After comparing The College of Health Care Professions, Alvin Community College, and the University of Texas as Austin based on my criteria of tuiti on cost, dorms/apt, and distance from home, CHCP (The College of Health Care Professions) would be the best choice in helping me pursue my career in nursing. However, even though CHCP may be the best choice for me, there are still some downfalls. Nursing has always been an interest of mine. I love how hands on, and interactive the job can be. That may vary from the hospital you work at, and what position you are in. But on average, you get around 11 holidays, 12 PTO days, 2 personal days, and 15 sick/paid injury days. (AACN) If you ask me, that sounds like a lot of time off. The annual salary for registered nursing is around 60k a year(AACN). A national average median salary of $66,640 in 2014 does not make registered nursing an attractive career for those looking at the bottom line (Learn How to Become). Tremendous growth is expected for registered nurses. Several reasons for this exist, including aging population, wider health care availability and the fact that one third RNs are currently working are nearing retirement (Learn how to become).
