A Corner Of The Universe Hattie Owens Quotes
The main character in the book “A Corner of the Universe” written by Ann M. Martin is a twelve-year-old girl named Hattie Owens. In this book Hattie Owens is trying to solve the problem of Adam’s parents kind of neglecting him and dis owning Adam just because he has a few disabilities. She feels that it is unfair because they kind of take advantage of his disabilities. Hattie tries to solve this problem but she has a few roadblocks along the way. Therefore Hattie helps Adam because of her being so, determined, stubborn and willing. Hattie Owens is a very determined girl. A good portrayal of this characteristic is when Hattie tries to get Adam out of his house so that he con go to the carnival with her instead of being shut up in his room while his parents are having a social gathering. This is a good example because Hattie really wanted Adam to escape because she felt bad for him and wanted to take him out on an adventure! Another scene where this characteristic is shown is when Hattie “stuck up” for Adam so that he could go be ‘normal’ for a few hours. Therefore we see Hattie become a determined, strong willed young lady. Some textual evidence for this characteristic is on page 1 and the book says, “I’m not about so spend the morning in bed…” …show more content…
A good scene where you can see this characteristic is when Hattie was helping her mom and Toby with the cleaning up so that it would get done faster. This is a good example because she always is willing to help people in all different kinds of ways! Another scene when this happened is when Hattie was willing to help her Carnival friend with some of the duties that she had to do before they could go play! Because of these examples we see that Hattie is a willing person through the entire story because she is always willing to help others. Some textual evidence for this characteristic is on page 27 and the book says, “... helping mom and Toby with the rest of the

One of the similarities is that Bettle needed someone who will teach her, and give her the warm feeling of love by a member of a family or friend. Another similarity is that we do not give up, we fight for what we believe and what role we want to take in our lives, and if we fail, we try again and again. Something that catched my attention a lot was when she said at the end: “... I can do what you tell me and take what you give me, I know how to try and…

Writers use alienated characters to show the moral values of a society. In The Help by Kathryn Stockett, Aibileen Clark is a character who is alienated from society because of her race. Aibileen is an African American woman living in Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960’s. During this time period, colored people were discriminated against and dehumanized just for being a darker color. These absurd beliefs were the main reason no colored maid ever spoke up to the whites on how they were being treated less than human. They always kept to themselves or would have to face severe consequences. On the other hand, Aibileen is determined to share her story with the world. Even though she will be risking her life, she hopes to inform people of the truth behind how the colored maids feel. The author uses Aibileen’s character to show the moral values of the society while she worked for a white family in Jackson Mississippi during the 1960’s, in The Help.…
