Rather than accept my failure after being laid off, I decided to continue with my education and keep positive while looking for a new job. Layoff is a termination of employment of an employee or a group of employees for business reasons, such as the decision that certain positions are no longer necessary. In most cases a company will buy other companies and they will no longer need double people for a position. So here's the scoop: I got let go. Harding Security and Associates, my previous company was in a cash crunch and I was expendable. But really, it's probably was all for the best. I didn't make enough money there, and I was way overqualified (given better financial resources the job would have evolved to …show more content…
suit me more, but that's a whole another story). I also did not feel like I fit in there with the atmosphere. Plus, and I take this as a sign from God, I checked out some accounting jobs on monster.com and thought I found something interesting.
I was devastated one late Thursday afternoon by six little words: "We have to let you go." My employer Harding Security and Associates was forced to cut my position due to a financial crunch, but I was determined not to let this layoff get me down.
The loss of income puts an upcoming car purchase at risk, but I am certain I will find a new position in time to complete the deal. Though relatively new to the whole finding a job market, I knew exactly where to turn to find my next job fast Monster.com. Less than 48 hours after the bad news I had posted my updated resume online and came to an exciting realization. She had found the perfect role for her at L-3 …show more content…
Communications. I saw the Financial Specialist II ad on my lunch break one Friday afternoon and recollected my thoughts. "My first thoughts were, Wow! That's totally me I have to get this job!' I've dabbled into accounts payable; I have Deltek Costpoint training and five years experience in the accounting field. My previous position has allowed me to use my accounts payable and receivable skills, but only in a limited capacity, so this position would be a huge step up. Plus, I find the developments in the financial world fascinating. I read up on financials daily. And I know I am exactly the kind of fresh mind that could help bridge the gap between the old world of budgeting and the new financial age."
As it turns out one of my ex co-workers is the head of the Accounts Payable department at L-3 Communications, so she is going to put in a good word for me.
The job is in the Accounts Payable department, so that puts her one step ahead of the other candidates. And who knows, maybe my silly idea will land me an awesome new job. Normally I'd say I don't stand a chance at something this cool, not with the competition in the accounting world, but around here, I'm basically top of the heap when it comes to credentials. Not a lot of young non-college graduates' job-hunting around here with the references and training that I
have.
Two weeks went by and I got the job as a Financial Specialist II at L-3 Communications. L-3 Communications is one of the sixth leading defense government contracting companies in the United States. I received a decent compensation package with excellent benefits and it's within ten miles from my home. I was so excited to start my new career and am also very thankful for keeping positive.

Conclusion
"Losing a job is one of life's most stressful experiences. As more and more companies get "lean and mean," you may find yourself laid off, but you will survive." (How to Cope with Getting Laid Off). After being laid off three times in the past, nothing has come to a shock to me. I have always looked at things that have kept me going. I always say positive thinking has always kept me focused and confident while finding a new job. Never take anything an employer says literally like you have got nothing to worry about as far as your job goes because no one is safe. Always says stay strong and keep positive attitude and the right job will find you and remember never give up.
