For about as long as I could remember, my wish has always been to fit in, and be well-liked by everyone. I began acting a certain way that wasn’t me, and even began to lose my identity. I followed all trends and began to lose more and more of my identity as time chipped away. This all stopped as soon as high school began. High school was such a disquieting transition along with all of the new changes I’d be facing. New classmates, teachers, subjects, and responsibilities. I was now required to think twice before every move and concentrate on everything more adequately. All these changes made me begin to realize that I should learn more about my identity and do what makes me tranquil and content as a person.…

I decided to return to school for personal reasons. Returning to school is something that I have thought of doing for a very long time. I guess you could just say that I have been very lazy and procrastinated for a long time. I tried to go to college right out of high school but it did not work out. I don’t think I was quite prepared to make that big step. I was headed down the wrong path and decided it was time to do something with my life. I knew it would help me to grow as a person. I now find myself in sort of the same situation. I’ve been a cashier for 18yr and now I work hard every day loading a Goodwill trailer to support my kids I know that without a collage education that most likely will not happen. I also want to be a positive influence to my children and show him how important education is. I want to be a good influence to my son and daughter but most of all I want to better myself as a person. Plus most of all I know in 4 to 5 yr. my fibromyalgia will not be getting any better. By that time my R.A. in my back will be getting bad, I still have 8 yrs. left to support my little girl. I know I can’t do it working on…

For years, I lied about having a diploma; to me it was ok, because most time proof wasn’t needed. I wanted a position at a mortgage company, which I worked at, and couldn’t get it, because I didn’t have a diploma, first of all, but I didn’t have a degree, that was needed for the position of and mortgage underwriter. I felted sad, I also realized, that this was my entire fault, because I didn’t take advantage of free education, and cared more about being popular with, student going nowhere.…

The service that I did with the poor was at St. Vincent De Paul. I took the bus with a friend after school on a random Thursday with Ms. Reuter driving the bus, which I didn’t expect her to know how to do at all. It was my first time working there, because I had only worked at the distribution center the year before for confirmation. When we arrived we all signed in and they put the people who had been there before in their normal locations. My friend and I got split up, with me in charge of sorting all of the donated canned foods and my friend went over to move pallets around. While I was working with one of the staff there, I made friends with some freshmen that were also working with me. They started calling me silly names like “broth boy” because at some point I got in charge of sorting canned broths.…

Carefully, with a shaky hand, I successfully inserted an insulin pump into my left thigh. I counted every carbohydrate I ate and timidly calculated my carbohydrate/insulin ratio. The liquid I was distributing throughout my body was not in fact insulin, but saline. Volunteering as a diet aide at Camp Carefree, a children’s summer camp for type one diabetics, gave me the opportunity to know what it felt like to step into these innocent children’s shoes.…

“WHOA WHOA WHOA THIS IS BALONEY MAN!” that is something I say whenever I am frustrated. People have always told me sometimes the best way to learn something is through failure. People value things they have accomplished differently. Often the people whom are naturally adept at things do not realize how much of a struggle it can be for others. Many times when people have told me that if you are going to fall, fall forward. Do not let your insecurities, doubts, and pride get in the way of improving yourself. In brief, there can always be a way to improve yourself.…

Growing up I had two loving parents, they always wanted the best possible for me. School was always challenging for me. I never liked it, and I never had a good work ethic. It started when I was young, my parents never made me do chores, and they always rewarded me for minimal efforts of work, and it did not help me in the long run. I had a very easy life growing up, but being spoiled does not help when you become an adult. It’s very hard to just gain a work ethic, it takes a lot of time and effort.…

My issue happened a couple of years ago, when I was unsure if I wanted to continue college or drop out of college. Since I had graduated high school, I had struggled with college. I had attended three different colleges in three years. When I had dropped out of the third college, I was conflicted on whether to attended college anymore or not attend. I was blaming a lot on the colleges, saying that the college was not right for me. Later to find out that I was right about those colleges not being right for me but also that I needed to apply myself more to my studies. I worked many hours with my job (60 or more hours weekly) and I could not keep up with going back and forth to campus for class. The decision to whether or not attend college, was weighting on me to say the less.…
