books. While growing up, he was known as an honest man known as honest abe. He was a hard worker and a tall man . He was known to be the tallest president and one of the people who most helped the abolition of slavery. Before the presidency, he was a lawyer and then he wanted to be senator to go against Stephen A. Douglass in the hope to take him out of the senate and have him as senator. This was because he wanted slavery, while Abraham Lincoln was against slavery. This was the first step of towards the abolition of slavery that he would take and he would live to do much more.
Before and after Abraham Lincoln was president he had a strong opinion on slavery, which lead him to be an abolitionist.
He was a man who believed that slavery was wrong and that it was unfair, so he would try to abolish it. When he was elected, his presidency was revolved on slavery and how he would free them. He did many things to enforce the fact that slavery was ended such as the Emancipation proclamation and the gettysburg address. His impact on the country and the impact that he had on abolishing slavery was many. First is the civil war. This was a war that started because of the fact that the south believed that they should have slavery and the north thought that slavery was wrong. The president that lead us through this war was none other than Abraham Lincoln. He lead us through the war and ended up winning the civil war with the north. He went on to keep the U.S. in one piece, because the southern states wanted to split from the country because of slavery, but Abraham Lincoln stopped this and ended slavery throughout the
states.
Another way Abraham Lincoln helped the country in its attempt to end slavery was through the 1863 emancipation proclamation. The emancipation proclamation was a document that stated that all slaves in the rebellious states from the union were free and did not belong to masters. This didn’t necessarily change the fact that there were slave owners in the other loyal border states or in the northern states, but it gave many African Americans a different viewpoint on the civil war. They now saw it different than just a war vs the union, but a war for their freedom, which gave them the hope that there was a way that they would one day be free. This was a big impact that Abraham Lincoln had on our country during the time of slavery because he gave people hope that there was a way, which is what every president should give people, hope and freedom. That same year, Abraham Lincoln helped the country through the Gettysburg Address, which honored the soldiers that died in the civil war and made it that they were not in vain, but for the freedom of slaves and the abolition of it. This impacted the country on slavery because it made it that the deaths of soldiers were not in vain.
