ABS-CBN Corporation is the Philippines’ leading information and entertainment multimedia corporation. Its primary line of business composes of multinational television and radio broadcasting. They also enter into contracts with different professional actors and actresses and personalities in the production of television and radio programming for local and international audiences and other related businesses. History
The company was founded on June 13, 1946. The company is based in the Philippines. In 1953, the network was recognized as Asia’s first commercial television broadcaster. Before ABS-CBN, the company was formerly known as Bolina Electronics Corporation. The company was founded by James Lindenberg, now dubbed the father of Philippine television.
In 1951 Antonio Quirino entered into a partnership with Lindenberg. This merging caused the network to be renamed as the Alto Broadcasting System (ABS). It was after this merger the network was able to build its TV tower and import 300 TV sets in the same year.
In 1957, ABS was then acquired by the Chronicle Broadcasting Network (CBN), which was owned by Don Eugenio Lopez. This merger then transformed its name again to what it is now – ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.
Years later, the said network was leading throughout the industry with talented broadcasters such as Ernie Baron, Bong Lapira, Orly Mercado, Joe Taruc, Mario Garcia, Bobby Guanzon and Rey Langit.
