Accident Avoidance

Objectives:
 1. Students will be able to explain the causes of most common accidents.  2. Students will be able to recognize dangerous situations.  3. Students will be able to understand alternatives and hints on accident avoidance.

What is tailgating?

Tailgating is following too close to

the vehicle in front of you. Two major problems 1. Does not provide enough room to stop! 2. Can cause road rage!

 Avoidance:

3 second rule!!!

 Step 1: Find a stationary target that the vehicle in front of you passes and start counting.  Step 2: If you pass that same object within three seconds then you are TOO close!  Step 3: Slow down if needed.

Sometimes they can be confusing!

Fatigue Has anyone had an experience when they were in a car and the driver fell asleep? Can this cause serious problems?

How can one avoid fatigue?

Fatigue
 1. Good nights rest before driving.

 2. Avoid driving at night.
 3. Turn up radio and roll down windows.  4. Take breaks every hour or two.

 5. Keep eyes moving.
 6. Something that works for you! (Ice)
