Adieu, All's Vanity Analysis
Bradstreet’s attitude towards the lost of her things was as she said in the text was “ Adieu, Adieu, all’s vanity.” Which means that she is sad about the lost her things but she is not sad about about it because she thinks God had an reason of burning her things . The reasoning why I know she thinks God had a reason of burning her house is because in the text she said “Thou hast an house on high erect, Framed by the mighty architect.” Which In my head she means that God is saying it’s her time to come to heaven, but it is okay because he already has and house built for her up in heaven. In the story I can tell that her relationship with God is strong, My reasoning for this is that when her house burnt down she started praying to God. I know

This portrays that by Bradbury adding this, we can see that all people knew about fires was that they happened because a book was involved but they never understood the tragedy of them. Therefore, the quotes used express the final reasoning standing alone is just as good as standing together and sometimes better because they both describe how no matter what other people think, people should always do what they think is right and to actually understand the real meaning of things.…

Bradstreet’s poem was soft and personal. It would seem that she was contemplating the likelihood of her dying while giving birth. The poem was addressed to her husband, which makes since as if she were to die, she would want him to know her final words and not to mention he would be raising the child alone. Being that Bradstreet gave birth to eight children, it is very likely that she feared her own death during each and every one of her deliveries.…

Bradstreet talks about topics such as her relationship with her husband and children and her struggles with religion. In her poem “A Letter to Her Husband, Absent upon Public Employment,” her husband was gone and coming back soon, but whenever she looked at her children, she was reminded of him. She wished he was there with her because he is like the sun, full of warmth and kindness, and her life revolved around him; without him she would be nothing. In her poem “Before the Birth of One of Her Children,” she believed that she was going to die during childbirth, but she wasn’t the only one, because many women back then had the same fear. Also, if she passed away, she was worried that her children were going to end up with a horrible stepmother, so she frequently asked God to protect her and her children. Although Bradstreet was a woman who expressed great amounts of faith, she was often left struggling when her feelings turned to resentment, confusion, and betrayal towards everyone around her. Often things went badly for her, and she doubted God because she thought he was punishing her for the wrong things she had done. Since she doubted God, she would pray and realize that everything happens for a reason. She wasn’t being punished; there was a lesson that needed to be learned, and when she struggled, she wouldn’t dwell on her sinfulness, she continued with living her life.…

Anne Bradstreet's use of allusion throughout the passage conveys Puritan ideals in "mighty architect" excerpt. The author states," a house on high erect framed...furnished," and "paid for too" (Bradstreet 43-45, 51). Examples such as," house on high erect," "paid for" expands upon Puritan beliefs of "heaven." Society has to work their way up, follow morals "pay a price" for a greater spiritual life. Therefore, Bradstreet is portraying Puritan beliefs as positive guide lines(Bradstreet 43,47). Throughout the passage, the use of allusion portrays believe of God. Simultaneously, justifies authors calmness towards the situation. Bradstreet focused on spirituality than reality. The allusion convey tranquility and instilled principles.…

However, her identity has largely been associated with her family, of whom she wrote about in a majority of her works. It is argued in sections of the article that Bradstreet wrote about the deaths of family members, fear of childbirth, and love poems to her husband and domestic crises such as the burning of her house (Kopacz). Although many of Bradstreet’s earlier writing were overlooked in…

Bradstreet shows this love for God above all else when she says, “My hope and treasures lies above”(54). After her house-symbolizing her material life on earth-burnt down, Bradstreet realizes that nothing in this world is greater than that of heaven and that everything she desires in life is in heaven with God.“And to my God my heart did cry” (Bradstreet 8) reveals two very important aspects of Bradstreet’s belief. First, she wakes up, confused, inside of a burning house, but her first thought is to pray to God. This prayer shows how greatly Bradstreet trusts God to help her in her times of need and how often she thinks about God to pray to him in this confusing moment. Second, Bradstreet’s very personal relationship with God is revealed through the words “my God.” By using the word “my,” Bradstreet is showing that she loves God and is as close to him as she is to her husband, who she would refer to as “my husband.” In her poems, Bradstreet reveals that she loves and trusts God, as well as that she has a very close, personal relationship with…

Anne Bradstreet-in “The Burning of Our House,” Anne was the narrator of this poem in which she expressed how she felt when her home caught fire. The Entire poem was based on Anne’s emotional state during her time of despair and how her faith helped her through. As I read through the poem I noticed that she spoke of her religious beliefs and her relationship with God throughout the poem. “And to my God my heart did cry,” (8). In order to understand and relate to this poem the reader must have some form of religious belief. Anne spoke on how God took away her material items, but her faith helped her comprehend and understand that they never belonged to her in the beginning. “I blest His name that gave and took,” (14). Bradstreet made it clear in her literary works that she had a strong love for her earthly life, delighting in her husband and children, in the life they had together, as well as their home. Shameless is a show based in chicago which is kind of weird knowing how bad chicago is with all the crime that’s going on and the high murder rate but then again Lancaster hasn't been the safest of cities in the u.s either. Well shameless is about a dysfunctional family who struggles with life every single day, and every day there seems to be a new problem that occurs. Even though the main characters happen to have their own set of problems they always value family first and remain loyal to each other while I watch their family acting how they are it made me appreciate my family because we can be so many things but at least we're not crazy like the gallagher family. The main characters in the show consists of the gallagher family, Frank , Fiona , Lip , Ian , Carl , Debby , Liam and other supporting characters like Mickey and Karen. my personal favorite on the show is lip because he’s the cool brother who gets good grades and all the hot chicks he is sorta like me but I get bad grades well I did in high school. On a serious note this show made me feel every…

Similar to that of Rowlandson, Bradstreet sought comfort through her Puritan belief. Bradstreet moved to a new colony with her husband. However, this move was not without hardships. When Bradstreet and her family made the big move to America in 1630, many fellow travelers died, and Bradstreet herself developed small pox as paralysis took over her joints. But with “…the belief that God had not abandoned [her] helped her survive the hardships of the colony.”(annebradstreet.com)…

One trait the Puritans greatly valued is faith. Their faith in God was fierce and unrelenting. The Puritans believed God always had a plan for them and never challenged it even if they were unhappy with the results. “ Verses upon the Burning of your House”, is a poem about a woman, Anne Bradstreet, who loses all her goods in life but never her faith. Anne Bradstreet displays her faith in God by saying, “I blest His name that gave and took, / That laid my goods now in the dust. / Yea, so it was, and so ‘twas just. /It was his own, it was not mine,”(29). Bradstreet was never angry with what happened because she believed there was a greater power behind it. She may have been sad but never questioned it or God, showing her unrelenting faith in God. Jonathan Edwards, a pastor, also shows his fierce faith in God in his sermon,…

The two readings I chose to compare and analyze how they represent one or more of Marywood’s Core Values are A Good Man by Mark Shriver and Still I Rise by Maya Angelou. The core values that can be seen in both of these writings are excellence, empowerment, and respect. A Good Man Rises is about a father-son relationship, where Mark Shriver tries to learn much about his father’s life and apply them to his own life. Maya Angelou’s poem is about her outlook on her life. Both A Good Man and Still I Rise contain similarities and differences that portray excellence, empowerment, and respect.…

Despite her husband’s disapproval of her pursuing a writing career, Julia Ward Howe published her first book of poetry in 1853. Although it was initially published anonymously, it was successful and she began earning royalties. Dr. Howe voiced his displeasure with her for publishing her work and letting her name be known, but that did not stop her. Her second book of poems was published in 1856 and the next year her play, “The World’s Own,” was produced in New York and Boston (Meltzer, 1964). Dr. Howe was coming around in terms of accepting her secondary career as a writer, but he thought that her place was in the home showing devotion to her children and husband. Although this was not mentioned in Julia Ward Howe’s biography of her husband,…
