Arms Advancements in the Civil War New weapons were being designed by both sides while the war was in progress and while they were fighting. Overall the advancements we're a major push to win the war. Advancements in the weapons, they were using things like the minie ball, the spiral barrel, or the revolver, but because advances in arm advancements during the Civil War led to a higher death rates leading to the north's victory in the end.
Cannons played a major role in the Civil War, some had rifled barrels so bullets/shells could be more accurate and hit targets better. Some different types of cannons our what i’ll name and describe next. One of the bigger one is the 24 pound howitzer its range was 1,322 yards and its weight was 2,443 lbs (Moore, pg.1). Another big one was the 20 pounder parrott rifle its range was 2,100 yards! Its total weight was 2,925 lbs. that's 1.46 tons one of the heaviest cannons of the Civil War. Ill tell you about one more the 12 pound napoleon cannon the effective range was 100 yards the length of a football field, it was also 2,353 lbs total. So cannons we're a big part of the Civil War, but so we're guns (pg.1).

This was inefficient and dangerous. By 1863, however, there was another option repeating rifles, or weapons that could fire more than one bullet before needing a reload. The most famous of these guns, the Spencer carbine, could fire seven shots in 30 seconds.But going back to rifles they were a far superior weapon in every way.They had grooves in the barrel that gripped ammunition tightly which put a spin on the bullet allowing for deadly accurate and long range fire.With the new rifle came a new bullet.
