Weapons were helped by advances in technology because it gave shooting more distance and velocity, “minie ball” bullets, and advancements in rifles. The advances of shooting distance came from moving from a Musket to a Springfield rifle. They were both mainly used by the Union. A musket could only shoot 250 yards, and was invented by an Italian inventor named Moschetta. Then in 1861 the Springfield rifle was invented, this rifle could shoot up to 500 yards. The telegraph helped in many different ways, one of the biggest being that the messages were sent very fast. If Abraham Lincoln decided to change a battle plan or add something it then it got to a general quickly and easily. It also helped generals tell Abraham Lincoln if they were low on weapons, bullets, and supplies. They could also send messages if they were losing and needed more troops. There was a room that Abraham Lincoln used during the civil war. The room was used to make up battle strategies, as well as send telegraphs, and urgent messages to generals for battles.
