The idea that cars not only have become an indispensable part of our lives, but also have made our lives easier and more convenient seems to be practical. Nevertheless, it makes the assumption that people are over-dependable on them. As I shall argue, this not the whole picture, and there are some negative effects that cars bring to us. Both the pros and cons of using cars will be discussed in this essay.
First of all, I firmly believe that natural environment and people’s health are being threatened by cars. For example, increasing numbers of cars is the reason why there is an increased demand for the petroleum while these kinds of fossil fuels are limited. The more people use fossil fuels for running cars, the sooner natural resources are exhausted. Furthermore, noise and toxic gases that cars eliminate pollute the air we breathe and this seems to be uncomfortable for our daily lives.
Secondly, I am convinced that cars make the quality of life in our cities become worse and worse. For instance, the traffic congestion in large cities often causes a lot of inconvenience. It takes us hours to travel on the crowded streets, sometimes we can be late for work. Moreover, these days people rely heavily on cars to travel. They seldom use bicycles or walk to work, thus they lack of physical exercises. This makes people become lazy and passive.
Thirdly, I definitely think that driving becomes more dangerous thanks to the increase in number of cars. There are many crashes on the roads, especially at the rush hours. Consequently, people almost are getting more stress when they drive on street and feel risky every time.
