One of the primary agendas of Al Qaeda was to get the United States out of Saudi Arabia. The organization used a variety of violent tactics in an attempt accomplish the task, although they were never successful. Their tactical strikes have occurred …show more content…
in many different countries including the United States. According to the book America between Wars: From 11/9 to 9/11 Nineteen members of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda hijack four airplanes in the United States, crashing into the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and an empty field in Pennsylvania (2009 Chollet, Derek, & Goldgeier).
Furthermore, Al Qaeda is a terrorist organization that uses their extreme viewpoints of Islam to justify their cause. They have declared Holy Wars also known as jihad in the name of Islam. Al Qaeda opposes anyone that does not follow Sharia Law, the law of Islam. In fact, Islam, in general, is a peaceful religious group, but as a result, the religion as a whole has taken on a negative light due to radicals such as Al Qaeda.
Additionally, Al Qaeda has two structured heads, the consultation council, and the military committee.
The Consultation Council controlled high impact decisions, and the Military Committee made dealt with attacks plan. The famous former leader of Al Qaeda was Osama Bin Laden, who was killed in 2011 during a United States Military operation. Al Qaeda is now lead by Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Subsequently, Al Qaeda closely identifies with the definition of new terrorism. They use their extremist religious beliefs as reason and purpose for their attacks. The organization attacks multiple locations all over the globe to strike fear to the public, and manipulate governments. They also utilize numerous tactics to rain down terror on the world. Al Qaeda has targeted high-value public targets that will get the most attention.
In conclusion, I would classify Al Qaeda as both Left-wing and Right-wing type of organization. The group is extreme in their view of Islam. I do not think they are for or against government; it seems they are pro whatever suits their purpose, and ideas. They are dead set in what I would call an older belief, that would suggest more of a Right-wing idea, but they also use futuristic ideas when it coincides with their agenda, that would suggest Left-wing
ideas.
