Alexander the Great was one of the military leader of the ancient times. But he is not only known for his military leadership. His legacy can be seen throughout the world today. Though Alexander the Great died to and unknown cause, he did not vanish from the history books. This is for two main reasons. One, he united Greek city-states, and two, he conquered most of Europe, the Middle East, and Egypt.
Alexander the Great was born in July 356 BCE, at Pella, Macedon. His father, Philip II of Macedon, allowed Aristotle to mentor him and to teach him about the Greek philosophy. After the war between Athens and Sparta, called the Peloponnesian War, Philip II began to take over Greece in 356 BCE. But because of his assassination, Alexander had to finish what his father has started. With some time he did achieve both his father and his goals. But when he took over Greece, he did not force them to change their everyday lives. Instead he allowed them to carry on with their day to day lives as Greeks. The only major change was that there is only one ruler over the Greeks, not over 600.
After he conquered Greece, he then sought to spread the idea of Hellenism across the world. When he defeated the Persians and was welcomed in by the Egyptians, he introduced the Hellenistic ideas. Also, when his became victorious, trade route began to open to different parts of the world. With this spread of ideas, he founded new cities and even founded the city where the Great Library was built.
Even though Alexander the Great was only alive for 32 years, he still changed the world and his legacy can still be seen to date. From Hellenistic ideals, cities named after him, to Greece being a united country. Alexander the Great was truly, one of the world's greatest leaders of all
