family in her life because all it took was someone else decision for all that to be taken away. Alfre realized this when she seen one of the girls from Haiti was sold as a slave because of her father decision. The girl was taken away at a young age from her siblings and mother and still was not able to reunite due to poverty. Jennifer Garner talked about the experience she had to go through as a child and the events that occurred when her mother went to college to get them out of poverty in West Virginia. After visiting some of the mothers in the area she realized the struggled they had to go through like not being able to pay for the food along with only having a couple of cents in their pocket. The result of this is Jennifer wanting to make a difference in her kids’ life because of what poverty can do to a person. While watching the documentary what surprised me the most is hearing about the WIC program about how there are specific rules and amount being applied to the food. For example, one of the amounts is having six dollars for fruit and the portion only being one gallon. I thought these kind of programs are supposed to help the ones living in poverty, but all it is doing is having them buy less food to feed everyone and putting a restriction on the type of food to purchase. The WIC is also just for one child individually. In other words, Olivia’s mother was just going grocery shopping only for Olivia and not her other daughter. What stood out to me the most is when in Colombia I notice trash was everywhere and hearing about how the kids will use it to make a sidewalk, so they can walk and play around it.
