In early July of 1947, most likely around July 4th or 5th, something crashed to the Earth in the high desert of eastern New Mexico (Carey & SChmitt, 2009). Mac Brazel, a ranch hand on the J.B. Foster ranch, went to check on his sheep one morning after a series of severe thunderstorms. He was concerned about the wellbeing of his cattle because he heard a very loud explosion the night before during the storm. Upon riding out to the pastures, Brazel discovered a huge amount of strange debris scattered across the fields. Not knowing what this strange debris was, Brazel gathered some of it and showed it to his friends…
Homo floresiensis (“Man of Flores”) is the name for a possible new species in the genus Homo, remarkable for its small body, small brain, and survival until relatively recent times (www.en.wikipedia.org). Anthropologists Peter Brown of University of New England in South Wales, Australia, Michael Morwood and their colleagues have argued that a variety of features, both primitive and derived, identified LB1 (the first skeleton found in cave of Liang Bua) is that of a new species of hominin, Homo floresiensis. The first specimens were discovered by Thomas Sutikna and colleagues from the Indonesian Research Centre for Archaeology in Liang Bua cave of Flores, Indonesia in September of 2003 (www.newscientist.com). It’s most important and obvious identifying features were its small body and small brain. These species have been established to have survived on Flores until at least 12,000 years ago. However, there are still some anthropologists, such as Professor Teuku Jacob, who would claim these findings as anything but extraordinary. Whether these specimens represent a new species or not is a controversial issue within the scientific community as a growing number of scientists are challenging this sensational discovery.…
The body found behind the old cathedral in Spain is an adult male. That is because a body with a sub pubic angle of less than 90 degrees is a male. This person is an adult because the sutures of his skull have completely fused. This person also had scoliosis because that is what having a lateral curvature to your upper thoracic vertebrae indicates along with having a very small scapular spine on the left side and a very large scapular spine on the right side. The large hole in the frontal bone indicates some sort of brute force to the skull which may have been the cause of this person’s death. This person also had missing teeth which was indicated by the alveolar sockets missing from the maxilla and mandible.…
Specialists called forensic anthropologists are trained to analyze the secrets locked in a bone’s shape and structure and can use this information to help solve crimes, trace human origins, or identify those who have gone missing. In this project, you will assume the role of a forensic anthropologist and complete a detailed examination of skeletal remains. Forensic anthropologists use a combination of quantitative and qualitative measures to predict traits from bone. Through a series of metric measurements and direct observation, you will gather clues about the identity of the remains that have just been unearthed in a local park.…

After a week, the lab report came back with shocking information about the human like bones. The DNA results showed the bones were from a woman, about 35-years of age, and in excellent health. Moreover, not all the DNA was human; there was a 20-percent unknown factor. Nevertheless, report concluded she lived around 100,000 years ago. In addition, the holograph drawing of the skull showed she European looks and would fit into today’s environment. Besides, there were unknown fibers embedded with the fragile…
Furthermore, due to the nature of the case and the extensive heat alteration that occurred to the bones, recognition of the bones as human or non-human became hard to discern. However, by employing certain osteological methods anthropologist could characterize the highly fragmented remains. One such method frequently utilized by the forensic team was determining the maturity and architecture of the bones, as well as the analysis of the cranium, which is very distinct from any non-human (Byers, 2011). Similarly, the presence of projecting saber like teeth,…
Out of the many skulls Annette Laming-Emperaire discovered in Lapa Vermelha, Brazil, there was one particular skull that was found to be the oldest. The scientists and archaeologists nick named her, “Luzia” and began to do testing to see what she was and where she came from. The skull was measured and the statistics were put into a special computer. Surprisingly, Luzia was everything except Mongoloid. When this came into place, they took the skull and got a 3D cat scan to build a replica to make a face. A forensic artist recreated the features and scientists couldn’t believe it. The face did not look Mongolian, according to the scientist it resembled a “Negritoid”. As they did more tests they found out that Luzia was African and Australian. Since scientists were shocked they examined all the other skulls found with Luzia and once the same results were repetitive they began to…
We should be concerned with the extinction and try and preserve the biomes and ecosystems that are present. Over time the ecosystem and biomes have evolved changed in some form or fashion that will leave us in difference from this particular time now. It’s important to have something to be able to look back on for information and or instructions on how to change things that we as human may make a mistake and mess up.…
In the article by R.U.Steinberg, paragraph 2 tells us that the first step that forensic anthropologists take after finding the bones, is examine it and find out if it's human. Then they ask if it's an individual or more. After knoork on the biological profile of the victim which includes age, height, gender, and race. Paragraph 2 in the article says that race can be determined with antemartem pathology. After knowing the biological prifile, they establish positive identification. Dental records, hospital X-rays and DNA could be used in this method. "After that we top it off with perimotem [ time of death] pathology." Says R.U.Steinberg. This is done in order to coclude if a murder has occured. In order to find out the time of death, they look at the details of the bones and if they have any sratches or marks in them.…
Lastly, it can help safeguard us from environmental hazards such as radiation. In the article “Is Space Exploration Worth The Cost?” , It gave…
Forensic Anthropology has been a vital component in the investigation of genocides and homicides. Forensic archeologists and anthropologists excavate human remains and identify skeletal remnants, to discover information on how each individual died. Through this, they are able to figure out what had occurred in the death and why it happened. In one case in particular, known as the John McRae case, we can observe how the forensic recovery of human remains brought a severe murder to justice (Steadman 2003). Also, it brings to light the “disappeared individuals” around the world that mysteriously died in Argentina that later was found out to be genocide through the information of forensic anthropology (Kirschner & Hannibal 1994).…
De-extinction is a big step forward in science, de-extinction could provide us with knowledge of evolution and animals that we have never seen. It could also have a lot of environmental benefits such as some damaged ecosystems could be repaired by some extinct species of plants and animals. We can also redeem ourselves for what we have done to this planet we can bring back some animals and plants that are extinct because we made them go extinct. It can also be used to save the animals that are going extinct now so they won't die…
Another reason why Bigfoot is real is that scientists have located their DNA. The DNA tests they ran showed that bigfoot was related to us. How did scientists prove that? “In November of last year, a…
According to David Emery, there have been many findings of giant skeletons that have swarmed the internet since 2004. Most of the pictures that you find online have been photoshopped to put in an enlarged human skeleton or skull. A good majority of the discovery you have heard about are fake and definitely use photoshop. Most of the findings that have been proven to be real have all been in the Middle East or Mediterranean. Most of the discoveries that have been documented are in Greece. They have also been found in the Nepal…
