When one puts me and school together, you will find multiple emotions about school, both positive and as well negative. The one fact that I like about school is how it brings together many different people with different backgrounds. Having a diverse school is one of the main reasons why I like going to school. If it wasn’t for the diversity, it would make the school much dull and boring. I discovered many things last year in English Class last year. I found out, or you could say, rediscovered, that i'm not the best at writing essays. I occasionally get writers block plus I struggle in putting my billions thoughts into simple sentences. I often get stressed about essays. Writing essays is the least thing that I like about school. Reading books and short stories are what I enjoy most in school. After finishing highschool, I do plan on pursuing going to college but I don’t exactly know which one. If you ask me which school I would like to attend, I will give you a blank stare and shrug my shoulder. I have spent countless hours and nights thinking about that question. Narrowing it down to only three schools seems harder than I thought. Hopefully some day in the near future, the answer will just fly to me. Or maybe one school will just pop out and I’ll know.
As a young child, I absolutely loved to read. I could spend hours reading sometimes a whole day. The importance of reading books as a child is very critical. During that time, a book adds new words into your vocabulary and influences good thinking skills. Loving to read at an early age helps you out in the future when you’re asked in class to read a book independently. One of my favorite books that I read during 1st or 2nd grade was The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. The book showed the importance of having an older figure in your life who is willing to sacrifice their most beloved objects if it means helping you and your life and can help to become a better person. Another favorite book from back then was Horton Hears A Who! by Dr. Seuss. A lesson that I learned when I read the book is that even if someone is small in size, it does not make them less of a person than you. As I started getting older, I read almost all the books that Mary Pope Osborne and Barbara Park had to offer. Their books were the ones that I could reread 100 times and still not be bored of it. By the time I got to highschool, I started reading more literature books. Lord of the Flies by William Golding was one of the first books that I read during the first year of high school. You couldn’t really gain anything from that book but the fact that if you’re too long gone and away from civilization, you start to lose your morals and human standards and slowly turn into animals. Also, it tells you all the things not to do if you’re out and about, stranded on an island with a group of people all wanting to survive. Everyone needs to learn how to work together and agree on leaders who would increase their chances of survival. Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare has been one of my favorite stories so far. The theme and type of writing really fascinated me. The use of English back then was much different than how it is used today which was quite a learning experience. It made me want to read more of his plays, from which I understand that Romeo & Juliet is certainly not one of his best works.
One the surface, English is just another language that people use.Well it is a language that we know but we don’t realize how important English really is. Language is what separates us from other animals. It allows us to communicate with each other in many ways, both verbal and nonverbal. In order to communicate effortlessly and efficiently, one needs to know vocabulary words that can accurately describe your emotions and what you’re feeling. You would also have to know the right place and time of when to use a specific word. If you would like to get far in life, communicating well with others should be at the top of your skills list. Since English is a widely known language all over the world, it enables us in communicating with other important people in other countries such as presidents or queens. It allows us to share ideas that could resolve problems but most importantly, creating allies. Having enemies isn’t such an ideal thing to have.
As we all know it, four years of English are required in order to graduate high school. This is because mastering English is something that you must do. English classes in school introduce to you a variety of words that are ideal to know. In class, you will also learn how to use many types of figurative language such as similes and metaphors. Using figurative language in essays enhances your writing and helps you receive a better score. If an essay is required in order to get accepted into a college or university, figurative language and a high level of vocabulary words will help you get there. Making your essay stand out from the rest speaks out that you belong at that school. Mastering English could lead you to a variety of jobs. Becoming an English professor or a writer are some of the jobs that one would take.

Personally, I’ve always felt I was a decent writer in all aspects regarding research and personal narratives. Considering those are subjects that interest me and that I love to read about. I struggle the most when it comes to making my writing hold a deeper or hidden message when the topics I am told to write about don’t interest me. Having to do rhetorical analysis with old literature and having to explain the main idea was my number one struggle in AP language and composition senior year. But other than that I felt, throughout high school, I enjoyed writing and taking a majority of the writing classes my school had to offer, not only because it was required but because it was something that teachers and myself felt I did acceptable work.…

Writing class in my life has always been centered on analyzing mediums such as books, articles, movies, poems, and other things of that nature. The analysis would always consist of considering both viewpoints of an argument: what the author is saying and what the author is contrasting his or her viewpoints with. In addition to this, I have always been expected to incorporate my own thoughts on the subject of analysis. I feel as if I am a very good formal writer on serious subjects, and a not-so-great writer when it comes to talking about my own opinions and thoughts on an open topic. The best writing that I have ever done and was very proud of was the final paper for my Music Education philosophy course last semester. For this assignment we were expected to research a certain pedagogy, write about it, and synthesize our own pedagogy from what we had learned about that semester about all of the different pedagogies. Over the years from my first actual writing course in 9th grade, writing to me has developed from something I did to please the teacher into…

Throughout my time is College Composition I, I learned and developed numerous skills that I will carry with me to college and beyond. While writing the five assigned essays, I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. I believe a strength of mine was my ability to add in personal stories into my essays. For example, in my definition essay, I included my fear of disappointment and how I work to overcome this particular fear. On the other hand, one weakness that I struggled with was style. While writing my essays, I would sometimes use wordy and unclear sentences structures. Often times I would focus solely on improving my diction while writing my papers.…

This class has taught me many things about myself along with many necessary skills needed while writing. I know now that, through hard work and determination, I can achieve what I might think to be impossible. While reflecting back on my initial writing abilities, I see the weak, uneducated style of writing. Each essay shows my progression and improvement, and, after a while, the class began to become much easier. Today, after practicing throughout my essays this semester, I believe that I, in fact, have…

When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. I have always enjoyed writing essays, but this class has helped me more fully understand the complexities of writing an essay. Previously, most essays I have written have been standard for English classes, and…

In high school, we grow so much as people that we tend to forget where we started. This applies to not only our personalities, but our academic abilities as well. I suppose this is obvious, as it is four years of school, but the magnitude of this growth never fails to surprise me. As I looked back at the writing pieces I created in ninth grade, with misplaced commas and awkward wording, all I can think of is how different my writing is today. The poem I wrote was created as a way to track and remember the changes I encountered each year.…

To start off with, the overall environment of being part of an AP/IB English class all throughout high school has made a positive affect on me. This has not only affected my familiarization with college level essays but I know what is expected from a higher level english course. When I was in high school I often thought, why do I have to write so much, it would annoy me that every month was a new essay, now the idea of writing a lengthy paper has…

Before taking this English 101-A course, I had a particular perception when it came to writing essays and English language. In High school, I was a really lazy student. As lazy as they can come, I was that times 10. For as long as I can remember I had always coasted through Elementary school and Middle school with really great grades. I would take honor roll courses and get straight A’s and 1 B almost every year. So by the time I had reached my first year in High school 9th grade, I decided I didn’t have to pay attention to anything or anybody because I thought I was so smart. I literally attended school from 9th grade to 12th grade to pass. I thought it would serve no higher purpose to me other than a time to get in some solid nap time, get…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…

Writing has not always been a strong suit of mine. Even in the present moment I sometimes struggle with writing. I have done numerous papers, ranging from daily journals to argumentative essays. I will admit that the older I grew I realized that writing helps in many ways. It can be a form of stress relieving, which I sometimes take into consideration when I have sort of a lot going on mentally. Many writing assignments were about what I liked to do hobby-wise, what my plans were for the future career/ school-wise, how I felt about certain discussed subjects nationwide such as the election of a black president, the rights for gay marriage, as well as oversea discussions, like the human trafficking in Thailand.…
