Am I A Soc Or A Greaser?
Am, I a Soc or a Greaser? I would say that i’m a Greaser. Why? Because I like to help people, save lives, and I can’t run away from my problems. Greasers are rough and tough and I would say that I can get like that sometimes when it comes to something that is really important to me. Being a Greaser wouldn’t be too bad because you know how to live unlike the Socs. What are the differences between a Soc and a Greaser? The difference between a Soc and a Greaser is the Soc’s are mean and ugly and are rich, Greasers are sometimes kind, they save lives, and they aren’t that rich. I examined the two groups and here’s what I found out. The Greasers are rough and tough and they make some not so good choices, but they learn from their mistakes. The Socs are mean and they all ways have their heads in the clouds and they like to get drunk and fight other people like the …show more content…
Some other stuff I found out was that the Greasers like to smoke to look cool and it calms their nerves. The Socs never get told No their always off getting drunk and going to rumbles and fighting the Greasers, but there are only two Socs who don’t really like to do that and that's Cherry Valance and Randy. The Greasers like to get into fights and two of the Greasers have been killed because one of them wanted to be with the other one and one died because of a fire. The Greasers can be gentle at some points, but not all the time. Sometimes Greasers live like Hoods and they don’t think the world means anything. Socs think the world is theirs and that they think that they rule it so they can go off getting drunk without their parents knowing. Some of the choices the Socs have made are fighting the Greasers and chasing them off and beating them to death and they never learn that that’s not a

The Greasers Things are rough all over (The Outsiders). Based on what I read, The Greasers struggle more due to the lack of support from their parents. According to the book The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, The Greasers had more trouble than the Socs because of the sacrifices they made and the violence they were exposed to. The Socs have the wealth to have a good life but decide to make poor choices...while the Greasers make significant sacrifices. Because of the sacrifices they made and the violence they were exposed to, the “Greasers” struggled more than the “Socs”.…

In the article written by William J. Chambliss, “The Saints and the Roughnecks” the Saints are a social group that everyone has very high expectations for. This group in particular has an expected bright future ahead of them with money and success and are treated with respect from authority and from peers. Although the Saints do not act as though their reputation is at bay with frequent partying, drinking, and dangerous pranks, they are still treated like responsible students. Unlike the Saints, the Roughnecks have a different future in the minds of adults in authority. The Roughnecks are a clique that have less money and opportunities than the Saints. The Roughnecks have mediocre grades and perform minor crimes. Yet the crimes are about the same severity as the Saints, the Roughnecks are most likely to be punished by authority than the other clique. This is simply an observation of the behavior of both teenage groups, and how the adults discipline both.…

Can two drastically different groups of kids face similar problems? In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton two classes of kids, greasers and socs, share many similar problems. Since teachers favored them they got special treatment on assignments because they thought they could do better. They all believed that they would "make something of themselves". The boys would rarely be stopped for their driving and when they were they were well mannered and well dressed so police officers viewed them as sincere. The Roughnecks committed less crimes as the Saints did through theft, fighting, and drinking. There was a common view of the community that these boys were bad because of the families economic standing and that they were not able to hide their crimes as the Saints did.…

Today more than ever, people are grouped into social classes based on their friends. You could be considered popular, or lame. This is not just true for middle school, but also life in the 50s. The book The Outsiders focuses on two main cliques, the Greasers and the Socs. One might think that the name represents Greasers, and what they have to deal with, but the real outsiders are specific people. The outsiders are the people who dare to be different from the stereotype of their group, who believe people should be judged on who they are, not social class. Major outsiders in the book are Darry, Ponyboy, and Cherry Valance.…

The most important difference is that the Greasers live in poverty, while the Socs are rich and have their perfect little home. Ponyboy says “We’re poorer than the Socs and the middle class.”(Honton 3).This shows that the Greasers are poorer than anybody else. This also shows that the Greasers sometimes can't maintain them selves because they don't have money. Therefore, Greasers are too poor, and don't have it easy like Socs that have everything they desire.…

Ponyboy and his gang are pitted against the hateful, judging, and cruel middle class and higher. They are discriminated against because of their lack of money, and are constantly being cornered and beat up. After being cornered by the Socs, Ponyboy was asked, “You guys know what Greasers are? White trash with long greasy hair,” to which Ponyboy replies “You know what a Soc is? White trash with mustangs and madras,” this shows that the Greasers are seen as nothing more than trouble makers with slicked back hair, compared to the rich Socs (Hinton (chapter 4, paragraph 16). Once again, the Socs are “the jet set, the West-side rich kids,” and that seems like the only thing that separates the Greasers and the Socs, but the these two gangs, that is the only thing that matters (Hinton 2). In a way, this conflict was beyond the characters control. They cannot control how they are treated by others and the lives they were born into. However, Ponyboy, did in a way overcome this obstacle by becoming friends with a Soc named Cherry with whom Ponyboy has a lot in common. Although their slight friendship creates a larger conflict, it changes Ponyboy’s assumption that all Socs are the…

This is shown when Sodapop chants a saying when leaving the house for the rumble. “ I am a Greaser. I am a JD and a hood. I blacken the name of our fair city. I beat up people. I rob gas stations. I am a menace to society. Man, do I have fun!” (Hinton 136) This chant begins a game in which Darry and Two-Bit pretend to be Socs. This lets them get their excitement out for the rumble, but also shows how aware they are of what society thinks of them. Although not all stereotypes placed on them are true, they take pride in knowing that they are different and love themselves for who they really are. When Ponyboy and Johnny are in the church, Johnny realizes that there is more to being a Greaser than hair grease and rumbles. He realizes that social classes do not define a person, but a person’s actions define a person. In the article, Inside Quad-City high school cliques, many researchers state the different reasons why kids need to express themselves. Mark Vincent, a social psychologist at Augustana College in Rock Island, affirms “Vincent explains humans do tend to believe that members of other groups are all the same. At the same time, they recognize the distinct differences among the people in their own group, physically, mentally and emotionally, he adds.” In short, Vincent is explaining that even though humans are in groups for the same reason, they have different personalities throughout.…
