“A man can fail many times, but he isn 't a failure until he begins to blame somebody else.” – John Burroughs We as citizens in the United States are, for the most part, familiar with the U.S. intervention in the Middle East. However, if you were to ask random citizens why we are there in the first place, you will get a few different answers. So why are we there? The Bush (W) administration claimed it was to fight terror, or, in Iraq’s case, to confiscate weapons of mass destruction. The earlier Bush administration intervened to fight Saddam Hussein’s effort to storm into Kuwait. Following the events that occurred on September 11, 2001, Americans weren’t looking for a reason, but an excuse. We were willing to do anything necessary to “get the bad guys” and come out on top. The problem with this logic is that we ourselves might be those bad guys. American intervention in the Middle East has gone back to about a century ago.
