It’s not an easy thing to speak about myself as it is hard to look at myself from aside, most of the time one tends to get biased in an attempt to appease to the person he or she is introducing his/herself to. This is a common characteristic in human beings’ as even social scientist will say that this has been used to bring out the strength, weaknesses, dislikes and likes in a person, but at the same time who knows better than me about myself?
I am a young man of twenty nine years. People say that I have smooth face like that of a lady without moustache neither beard with dark eyes, thick eyebrows and a stern figure. As to my appearance, am rather tall and muscular with a small belly. I have never thought that am handsome though I wish I was more appealing. I think I’m reserved, calm and modest rather than high tempered. But sometimes I can lose temper and become sad, angry or even stressful. I like staying alone but sometimes I retreat to my shell (my friends and family) where I like to laugh and joke. I have got a sense of humour and believe to understand and appreciate it.
There are many things in the world that I do like and some I dislike. First I like when everything is ok, and everyone is happy. I like to study as knowledge is useful sometimes. Not necessarily to advance my career but in also other areas academic, this is evident since am a paramedic while pursuing a degree in business. It is so interesting to read the different perceptions that my friends and husband see of me. For example, my husband had very similar results to mine because he lives with me and sees me everyday. He has known me for ten years now and it is reassuring that he knows me so well. The only thing that we both seem to entirely disagree on is how imaginative I am. He believes that I am only slightly as I think that I am extremely. I believe this is because my husband is a big talker and he likes to verbally express his ideas where I would rather put them down on paper. As for my two friends opinions, they are slightly different. The two of my friends are actually a couple who lives together. The one I have know for ten years, where as the other I’ve only know for two. Both seem to agree that I am not at all selfish but also extremely considerate of others. This makes me feel good, as I have stated previously that I always try to treat people with the utmost respect that I would want from others.…

When most people look at me, they don’t always see me. They see a girl. They see a quiet girl who is a big reader. They see a girl who is a hard worker and does well in school. They see the sister of three younger brothers. It’s true. I’m all of these things. I am also much, much more. I am mature in certain matters, and childish in others. I change my personality according to my surroundings, and do not show the world the real me. There are even some things that my family does not know about the real me.…

    My Own Identity Essay

    • 870 Words
    • 4 Pages

One’s own identity is derived not by circumstances, but rather by his or her experiences, moral values, as well as motivation. Especially in today’s media, people love to read or watch about impossible stories of rags-to-riches, and they try to incorporate those stories’ motivational plots into their quest to become successful. I concur with Thomas Merton in that I believe “identity is much more than the name or features one is born with. True identity is something people must create for themselves.” One’s origin does not fully account for one’s identity, but it is shaped rather by actions and perception of self. Ideals from “People Inside Me”, “Cut”, and “Commencement Speech at Mount Holyoke College” all influence my point of view regarding…

There is an unfortunate reality in that there are millions of people around the world who are willing to do almost anything, even lose themselves, just so they can be accepted and become part of the crowd. To keep things in perspective, wanting to be accepted, wanting to fit in is not exactly a bad thing. In fact, it’s basic human nature for survival and social growth, and it starts at a very young age. During our developmental years, we feel the need to be accepted or be worthy of acceptance. This can’t be met when you are isolated, other people have to be involved if these needs are to be met.…

Growing up in a family with five other kids taught me to be independent and hard-working, but I also developed matronly qualities from looking after my younger siblings when my mom wasn’t home. Throughout my high school years, my personality had led me to be the mediator when my friends argued, the advisor when they had no clue what to do, and the councilor when they had problems they couldn’t talk to anyone else about. While it never occurred to me before, I recently realized that these traits will take me far in life.…

Identity is something human beings hold dear. Humans are very complex beings and it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what makes up who a person is or can be. Now, the most common generalizations as to what makes up an identity are: personality, likes, dislikes, experience(s), religion, soul, memories and beliefs. A physical form isn’t mentioned; because the body is a temporary thing. A body doesn’t necessarily mean that it is part of the identity since; what will last forever in not the body but the impact left by personality or ideas, for they are everlasting.…
