Despite living with his daughter and her family, he frequently feels lonely and discouraged. Since he has developed several health conditions, he does not leave the house as much as he desires. For instance, Jonathan suffers from arthritis, which has impaired him in completing daily tasks and activities prior to his condition. Hence, he requires more attention and uses a walker to support himself. Moreover, while watching television, he uses a mini bicycle pedal, to assist with motion and regulate the blood flow in his legs. Furthermore, other than his current health conditions, his senses have significantly declined, conceding that he has trouble hearing and continuously having dry skin.
While Jonathan is religious, he used to attend Sunday mass with his daughters and her family. Conversely, because of his old age, his daughters tell him that it is too dangerous for him to go out and it is safer for him to remain at home. As mentioned before, even though his daughters visit him frequently, Jonathan often feels depressed that his sons are living in another country.
