I love this sentence because it shows that Kate actually does care for her grandson. This is my favorite sentence in chapter three because it shows that she has to act like she doesn’t care about him. I think it’s because she is scared to be embarrassed by her grandson. What Kate doesn’t know is that Alex loves her too; if she knew this she wouldn’t have to be so harsh and act so tough in front of him.…
Due to the racial biases at this time, Isabel, having black skin was considered a lesser person, and was a slave from the time she was born. Isabel started in a kinder household, where she came her closest to freedom, but had the chance taken away from her when she was sold to a new family. At a very young age Isabel began working for Mrs. Lockton, with her sister Ruth, and saw the true unfairness of slavery. She was mistreated and abused by her mistress. This time her masters went by the names of Mrs. and Mr. Lockton, this leads us to our next character, Madam Lockton. Even though she was wealthy, Mrs. Lockton was also born into a form of slavery. As a woman she was always the property of a man, whether it be her father, or her husband. She continually tried to stand up for herself, even though she was beaten because her husband saw her as property. Society thought that the man's life should be protected over the woman’s, because they are more valuable. “She stopped as Madam cried out in pain. ‘The master likes to be obeyed. He’s not happy she wants to head for Charleston. And she don’t want to stay here.” This is a quote from Becky, a servant in the Lockton household.…

Through Jacobs’ writings, Alonzo was able to identify that relationships and bonds are very important. (118-122). Jacobs’ emphasizes the relationships rather than establishing herself. Personal relationships with family, friends, co-workers, and God are a major factor in her writings. She never thinks for herself, but for others. Responsibility in relationships is also emphasized in her story, for example, Mr. Sands wasn’t able to complete his responsibility as a husband and father, but Harriet Jacobs completed her responsibility as a mother and granddaughter. Her children, family and friends kept her going. Due to that, Harriet Ann Jacobs is able to conquer her fear of trust also in Incidents, who to trust and who not to trust, not only…
In the story by Eudora Welty, “The Worn Path” Phoenix Jackson is a complex character who defies a stereotype in a symbolic way. Welty's story describe Phoenix as the o;d lady who had to travel miles a day in order to prove to the other characters that her grandson was not dead. Having to prove that her grandson was not dead Phoenix had three traits of characteristics. She was loving, determined, and persistent. These traits help her to overcome being stereotyped and ultimately her overcoming these stereotype made her symbolic in the journey, her name, and the time frame in which the event happen.…
"Broken Chain by Gary Soto shows how people act differently to be accepted by other people their age." Near the beginning alfonso, the main charecter, is someone who definitely does certain things to be more accepted. But he only cares what his peers think, no adults. For instance, Alfonso knows his father doesnt understaned the desier for a cool haircut. Because the story states,'his father, who is pure mexicano, would sit in his chair after work, sullen as a toad, and call him sissy if he dyed his hair purple and it a certin way.'Alfonso definitely doesnt want to act differently to be accepted by his father. he wants a cool new haircut to be accepted by people his own age.…

Initially, Maggie perhaps comes across as a flat character who thinks that the world has always catered to her pretty sister Dee. However, as the story progresses to the main conflict, when Dee wants to take two quilts made by their Grandma Dee, Maggie shows herself to be a round character with many sides. When Dee first makes the request to take the quilts, Maggie is in the kitchen washing up the dishes and Mama notes “I heard something fall in the kitchen, and a minute or two later the kitchen door slammed.” (152) This statement shows Maggie’s frustration because again the world seems to be taking from her and giving to Dee (B&N). After hearing the exchange between Mama and Dee, Maggie seems to want to give in to her sister’s wishes, perhaps in an effort to please her.…
This helps Eleanor acknowledge the poor trust between the two, Eleanor and Tina. The last quote which determines the trust between both characters is said by Eleanor and Tina. It is being said to understand that the relationship between Eleanor and Tina can still bond. At the time, Eleanor has ran away from her home and then notices Tina on the streets of their neighbourhood. For instance, “ ‘What’s wrong with you anyway?’ Tina asked. ‘Nothing.’ A pair of headlights stopped at the end of the block, Eleanor put her arm over her head. ‘Come on,’ Tina said in a voice Eleanor had never heard before― concerned. ‘You just need to stay out of his way until he cools off ’ Eleanor followed Tina up the driveway, crouching to get into the hazy, dark garage.”(282). Eleanor acknowledges that she can still trust Tina even though what happened between the two. Although, the language used by Tina was penurious to Eleanor, Tina is attempting to assist Eleanor in the quote. Through the examples, it is apparent that Tina was very unpleasant at the beginning of the novel however Tina becomes more friendly near the end of the novel but their trust is still…
The changing business environment, from a global perspective, demands adequate flexibility throughout the educational setting to compensate for these changes. That is, business is consistently changing as it transitions into the global environment. Distinct changes to the educational system are mandatory in order to meet these needs and prepare individuals for success as they move toward the modern business environment (Conklin, 2010). Critical Chain by E.M. Goldratt introduces the need for a dynamic approach in education in order to accommodate the world of business. Adaptation has been present in the business environment, where the same demand applies to the educational structure, recognizing the need for a new culture of educators and students (Conklin, 2010).…

Curzon and I had walked on for numerous days without food or water. Curzon's fever worsened. He was burning up and it took a lot of my energy to care for him. Regardless of that, we kept walking. After a few days, he recovered. Our rations were taken when we saw some American soldiers, leaving us with money and no food. I persuaded them that we were making our way back to our master, who allowed me to take my brother for a stroll since he was ill. At least part of that was true. Curzon found a marketplace and a tavern. They were both small and nothing like the ones we were accustomed to before. Then, we started arguing whether to go to the tavern or to go to the marketplace to buy food. "Let's go to the marketplace. We are more likely to be caught if we go to the tavern." Curzon said in quiet voice. "No, you need to rest. You're still ill." I said. Curzon encouraged me, "I'll be alright, what we need the most right now is food for the trip back to the Lockton's estate. Then, it hit me. I didn't think about it before, but, where are we? Were we in South Carolina? I bothered to ask Curzon, since he looked weary. After the long debate, we had decided to go to the marketplace. I did most of the talking so Curzon could rest a little. People stared at my scar as they walked pass us, but I didn't mind that. Curzon was breathing heavily. We walked to the tavern, hoping we wouldn't get caught. "Sleep some. I'll wake you up when it's time." I said. Curzon argued "No, we need t--" With that, he fell fast asleep.…
