Analysis Of Extra Gum: The Story Of Sarah And Juan
In October of 2015, the Extra Gum company published a YouTube video titled “Extra Gum: The Story of Sarah and Juan.” This video showed a girl, a guy, a stick of gum, and how their love story unwrapped. Viewers were so caught up in the love story that the gum being exchanged wasn’t noticeable until the very end. Before this advertisement was aired, the company focused on relaying the message of the gum having long-lasting flavor. Once the company realized they needed a long-lasting relationship with the consumers they produced the 2015 Extra’s “The Story of Sarah and Juan” advertisement in attempt to increase revenue by emphasizing relationships and how they are built through emotionally appealing to viewers through visuals, such as the gum …show more content…
This is the first real encounter between the two. The next scene is Sarah and Juan sitting in his car where she yet hands him another piece of gum and they end up having their first kiss. After Juan drops Sarah off at her house, the first glance of him writing on the gum wrappers occurs. As the video progresses, it shows them finishing high school and starting the new chapter in their lives. Viewers watch as their relationship is put to the test as they move away from each other and enter into a long-distance relationship. By the end of the advertisement, the two high school sweetheart hearts end up getting engaged and their relationship succeeding is credited to the Extra gum they shared together. The producers created a story of two high school sweethearts that were faced with many challenges but were able to overcome them through the use of the Extra gum. Viewers are usually able to predict how love stories go, but this one had a twist at the end with the wrappers. It created a sentimental feeling in the viewers and allowed producers to create a relationship with the viewers while still persuading them to purchase their product, therefore creating an effective advertisement overall.
