Immoral. Sensual. Daring. These words reverberated into a woman’s world while society forcibly stamped their disapproval and rejected the Kate Chopin outright. Unconventional, intelligent, and gracious, she matched society with her quick Irish wit and charmed anyone who knew her. Not satisfied with the women’s role in society, she provocatively stirred emotions, thoughts, and ideas in her writings. Two such classic examples are “The Storm” and The Awakening. The idea for a woman to have sexual desires, human connections, and forthright adultery shocked and revolted the society she lived. This unconventional, innovative poet did not deter away her own personal thoughts and feelings from her judgmental peers. She relied on and stayed…

Money is tight in my family, my mother is a single mom who works for the Head Start Program in the Kansas City Public Schools. I have a little brother who is a freshman in high school and an older sister in college. I don’t know if I will be able to afford to go without even a little of this scholarship. Even if I do go money will be tight so this trip would be my Christmas gift and my birthday gift. I know that there are probably people who need this scholarship more than I do and I hope that they get to go too. I am really thankful that I even get this opportunity because there are school districts in close to mine that don’t even offer Japanese as a language. Next year only one school in my district will…

Instead of going to the typical high school like my peers from middle school, I choose to travel 3-4 hours every day for a dual-enrollment program that challenges my mind and abilities every day. This fall, I will be attending University of California, Santa Barbara, under the Global Studies program. I will get a job to support my college education, and I will pursue internships, minors, and study abroad at every opportunity. I am going to become a diplomat through the U.S. Foreign Service, and I will explore the world, making change, helping people, and most importantly, gaining a broader insight of what makes the world tick. The more I travel, the more I will see, and as I learn I intend on using my knowledge to solve major problems and crises and leave the largest positive impact on the world I am capable of, with the help of those I…

Showing people like myself who strive to work hard to make something out of there life, to beat conformity and to show that they're not just a statistic. A year ago, I volunteered as a student ambassador in NPS. Each team has five members, and there was a mission to make two plans for a publicity campaign and put them into practice in a month. I was given a name as “A little Steve Jobs” by fellow members due to my creative and affable personalities, as I shine especially when I had to present in public. For instance, once there was a project regarding social contribution. I suggested to do fundraising by selling bracelets to keep mosquitoes away at Banpo Park, which is famous for summering place. We fundraised for our mission wearing uniforms with “NPS” logo for reducing people’s aversion (aversion is a strong word, is it this serious?) to us. My role was reaching out to people because I am…
