In the ancient Olympics there was only a running race for the first 13 games. Soon they added more and more events to compete in. In the modern Olympics there are about 41 events to compete in. The most popular ones are volleyball and basketball. One of the running events is called hurdles. Women and men have to jump over ten hurdles. Women only have to run a 100m, while men have to run a 110m. Some other running events are long and medium distance. Long distance consists of a 5,000m, 10,000m, and a marathon. Medium distance is just 800m and 1,500m. Some other events are pole vault, long jump, and triple jump. In long and triple jump each person is given 6 attempts.
