Animal Rights Movement is a serial movement which seeks an end to the rigid moral and legal distinction drawn between human and non-human animals, an end to status of animals as property, and an end to their use in the research, food, clothing, and entertainment industries.
Animal Rights movement is sometimes called the animal liberation movement, animal personhood, or animal advocacy movement.
How Animal Rights Movement Affects the Business Environment:
Animal Rights movement affects the business environment in so many ways. I would like to list down the freedom which animal rights/welfare councils provided.
The Farm Animal welfare council's so-called five freedoms (FARC 1992), provide a framework for assisting farm animals welfare. There freedoms include:
- Freedom from hunger and thirst: by providing ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor.
- Freedom from discomfort: by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting place. - Freedom from pain, injury or disease: by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
- Freedom to express normal behavior: by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animals own kind.
- Freedom from fear and distress: by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.
All these animal right freedom hinders a lot of profits to the farmers and industries which makes use of animals for production and for marketing purposes. If all these freedoms are given to animals it will affect the growth and business environment, and equally will affect the consumers and manufacturers. For example; almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather and going to circuses and zoos. Many of us bought our beloved pets at pet’s shops, had guinea pigs, and kept beautiful birds in cages. We wore wool and silk, ate McDonald's burgers, and fished.
All these things are now part of our today’s life and it's a source of living, happiness,
