Animal Testing
Animal testing in New Zealand Although there is no legal ban in New Zealand preventing cosmetic companies from testing their products or ingredients on animals they should really think twice before they start killing innocent animals. There are many, many ways which include testing on animals such as dogs, birds, deer, fish, cows, pigs, cats, mice, rats and rabbits. What these poor animals have to through is sad and beyond cruel. There are many tests carried out during cosmetics testing such as the Draize test which is when a product is tested in the eye of a conscious rabbit by injection. This then causes the animal not to move. The product is then later applied to their ears, mouth or even face, heavily harming the animal and in most cases causing death. But this isn’t the only test carried out on animals. Most of these cosmetics we buy are cruelly tested on animals before we use them to beautify ourselves. If we can pet animals in our homes why can’t we let them be in peace without having to murder them? Up to 90% of animals used in labs aren’t counted in the official statistics of animal testing and well over 300,000 animals are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused in NZ labs alone and over 100 million worldwide. Animal testing isn’t always safe for humans, millions of products tested on animals ended up going wrong on humans either causing infections, itchiness, allergies and sometimes death. In 2009 a total of 291,111 live animals were experimented on. 55% were killed or died as a result of the experiment. In 2010 242,149 animals were used. On June 30th 2013 more than 1000 people along with their pets turned up at parliament at the Cathedral Square in Christchurch to march against animal testing. Thousands of people have also protested from Kaitaia to Invercargill to show their anger over plans to test synthetic drugs on animals. The protestors were marching against the Psychoactive Substances Bill, which regulates the sale of drugs and

Animal testing on cosmetics is morally inept and other alternatives need to be used. Cosmetics are made using several different molecular and chemical compound ingredients which can be toxic or have dangerous side effects if not tested. In 1938 Congress passed the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic act due to public outrage after many people experienced death or injuries from untested products. According to the FDA animals are tested for “how much of a drug or biologic is absorbed into the blood, how a medical product is broken down chemically in the body, the toxicity of the product and its breakdown components (metabolites),” and “how quickly the product and its metabolites are excreted from the body.”…

The products we use everyday are a luxury that we are blessed to have and be able to use everyday. They are so easy to use and the benefits are so great that people don’t really care how they are made before they hit the shelves. But not many people think about all the tests that the product had to go through to get on the store's shelves. Not many people think about the negatives of the product and all the test that are done on ANIMALS. When shopping at a store, no one ever thinks when he or she buys makeup, cleaning products, deodorant or lotion, that it has potentially hurt an innocent animal. In fact, millions of animals die every year due to a chemical drug. Those animals harmed never got a chance to live a normal, animal life; instead, they were put into cages and locked up for years at a time. While animal testing can be used to ensure the safety of certain drugs for humans, potentially killing or harming the animal being tested deems this practice wrong because it is immoral to kill or injure an innocent animal.…

Each year in the United States, an estimated seventy million animals are hurt and killed in the name of science by private institutions, household products and cosmetics companies, government agencies, educational institutions, and scientific centers. Animal testing is wrong and downright mean. Innocent animals should not be treated badly and caused pain for the sake of a human 's safety. Many people think animal testing is good while others think it is wrong. I think it is completely and absolutely wrong. Approximately, more than 115 million animals worldwide are used in laboratory experiments every year (Humane Society International, 2010). Animals, from the fruit fly to the mouse, are widely used in scientific research. Research is critical for the advancement of medicine, leading to increased chances of survival from diseases and improved strategies to prevent them. Without animal experiments, transplants, diseases, cancer, and vaccines would not have been advanced. The use of animals can be inevitable, particularly in conditions that require first-hand understanding of biochemical processes in and outside the body. Therefore, animals should be used for scientific research.…

The US National Institute of Health spends $14 billion out of their $31 billion annual budget on animal researching(Humane Society International; Conlee; US National Institutes of Health). Animal testing has become a very controversial topic to discuss. Experimenting on animals is cruel because even though there are alternative ways to test people still believe that testing on the animals is a better way to do things. Acts of cruelty against the animals, and the fact that animals are different from humans seem to be big issues in the controversy. There are alternative ways to test for products other than testing the animals. There have been horrible acts of animal cruelty that violates the Animal Welfare Act’s laws, and the last…
