Animal Testing In Delillo's White Noise
In the novel “White Noise”, DeLillo claims that “testing on rats is okay because they are a vermin” (DeLillo 124). Animal testing is not mentioned a lot, but Babette does become a test subject for a new undisclosed medicine. If you go by DeLillo’s suggestions in the book, “White Noise”, animal testing and human testing is almost the same. They are both trying out new medicines, to see whether or not the medicines work. The only difference is Babette is willing to try the medication and the rat is being forced to be a test subject. Animal testing has been around for years; even centuries for that fact. The only things that have changed is the technology and experiments that are getting done. Animal experiments does not limit to rats only it goes beyond and above them leading to almost every creature out there. Also, there are different types of experiments being conducted there’s medication, cosmetics, and house hold goods to name a few. Between human volunteering and animal testing, scientist have increased our knowledge about everything they know. Scientist would not know the things they do if it was not for these experiments. So, next time someone is criticizing the experimental process, think about what has it done for the world. We would not have most of the things we do in the shape that they are if it was not for the testing being done. The scientists are not doing this to harm people or animals in any way. They are simply doing it to better our lives and for the
