In An American Childhood by Annie Dillard, there a many references to The Bible and scripture; in this book Dillard often states how the bible is with her and how much it amazes her. Annie Dillard states that scripture “played in the back of my head like a record on which the needle stuck”(132) that it was her “Terwilliger bunts one”(132). These first excerpt is showing how scripture was constantly playing back in Dillard’s head it was stuck in her head and on her lips “ like a record on which the needle stuck”(132). The second quote is alluding to when her mother found out that Terwilliger is a name and bunting is a tactic in baseball, and she would repeat “Terwilliger bunts one”(132) everywhere she went because she was so amazed with…
In the book Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott, she writes an excerpt, Shitty First Drafts, which is about the impact and importance of the first drafts of writing. Anne explains in the beginning of this excerpt that all writers write shitty first drafts and the drafts get better as you write more and work on the writing more. Lamott claims that “writing is not rapturous,” she explains that the only way that she can write anything well is to write a very bad first draft and just work on fixing that. She explains that sometimes you just have to type and get your ideas written out to be able to write a good piece of work. Once someone has been writing for so long, they have to have the ability to be able to just trust their writing process and understand that the first draft isn’t going to be perfect. Nothing is perfect on the first try, you have to keep working at it. Sometimes the first draft will be the worst thing someone thinks they have ever written, but they just have to go back to it and try to make it better and revise what is wrong. A writer has to start somewhere and they work from there. Just because the first draft is a bad draft doesn’t mean that the final work will be terrible. The first draft is the terrible draft, the second draft is the slightly better draft that has been picked through lightly to better, and the final draft is the “dental draft.” The dental draft is the draft that you really pick through and make sure that everything is perfect. In other words, the final product is checked “dentally” to make sure that it is “healthy” so that the final product is perfect. Lamott’s entire excerpt is just explaining that whether or not your first draft is perfect or not, the final product will definitely be better and more acceptable.…

A more known accomplishment of Alice Paul is the creation of the Congressional Union and the National Woman’s Party. After returning to America in 1910, Paul joined the National American Woman Suffrage Association. After giving a speech about her forcible feeding, she was asked to serve on the executive committee for NAWSA and agreed (pg 109). However, she later discovered that she did not agree with the tactics used by NAWSA, and she created the Congressional Union. The CU took a more hands on approach to fighting for women’s suffrage, but they made sure to refrain from accepting the word “militant,” as was used by the Pankhursts (pg 168). Later in her career, Paul felt it necessary to create a group composed of women in voting states, or…

The narrative that I read was call “Grace is Good” by Stephanie. The narrative is about a person who is very impatient and doesn't sound like a very nice person . He does not handle certain situations very well and doesn't really understand the meaning of forgiveness, he apologizes the wrong way, he apologizes by pain sometimes. What the author wants you to see is that some people handle things differently and not as well as others. Meaning you may have to be nicer to these people or show them more “Grace.”…
Schools are now starting drug testing students because of the rate of drug use that’s under the influence. Drug testing in schools will put the students’ rights and the schools’ money at risk.
