One of Antigone's flaws is her loyalty to the gods and, on the other hand, her disloyalty to the state. Antigone seems to value religion more than the law. At the beginning, Creon orderes that Polynices, Antigone's brother, must be kept unburied because Creon thinks that he was a traitor. This is offensive to Antigone, and she is willing to do anything to honor the gods and bury her brother, even if it means getting killed for defying Creon's laws.…

In order to understand how Bree Newsome echoes Antigone, one must first compare who they are vaguely. Both Bree and Antigone are of the same gender and attempt to prove women power. Women are not often portrayed as strong, but delicate. The time period that Antigone was written women were supposed to obey all rules. Antigone was not the woman that followed the law. On the other hand, Bree Newsome was a woman and colored too. As quoted by Nonprofit Quarterly writer Shafaq Hasan “‘It was decided that this role should go to a black woman and that a white man should be the one to help her over the fence…’” Bree Newsome was not one person activist. She was involved in an activist group called Blackbird. Blackbird is a multiracial group open more…

Creon’s pride and Antigone’s stubbornness create Antigone’s central conflict and create devastating consequences. Antigone loses her life, prompting Creon’s son and wife to commit suicide. Creon is forced to live with the guilt of the deaths of those dearest to him knowing that they were a result of his selfish actions. These events could not have turned out any differently due to how deeply engrained Creon and Antigone’s flaws are. Antigone is so determined to bury her brother that a potential death sentence and words from her sister do not deter her. The motivation of doing what the gods want, honoring Polyneices, and her stubbornness cause her to be unafraid of punishment. This is illustrated when Antigone says, “This death of mine/Is of…

In this society women were not thought of very highly. They were thought of as mothers housekeepers but never a leader. They had no important political roles and did not lead anything in this society. This is shown with Creon who does not like to submit to anyone but would never submit to a woman. The foil between the two sisters shows how society thought of women. Since Antigone was not like most woman and stood up for herself she was thought of as bad while her sister was thought of as perfect. This is a good example of how men thought of women during this time…

We do not see Antigone’s inner turmoil until Scene 4 when she is being led to the vault where she is to die. She is speaking to Choragos and the Chorus and begs for pity. She feels as if “sleepy Death summons [her] down to Acheron, that cold shore: There is no bridesong there, nor any music” (4. 5-10). Antigone feels as if there is no hope left and begins to regret her decision because she will never be able to, for example, get married.…

Selflessness, and determination are great characteristics to have, but when they are put against each other, problems can arise. In the play Antigone by Sophocles, Antigone is trying to bury her brother Polynices after his tragic death, while fighting for the throne. Creon doesn’t want Polynices to be buried because of how he died, fighting for the throne, and killing Eteocles, the rightful king. Creon doesn't think it is just for Polynices to be buried. But Antigone says the gods desire it. Antigone and Creon put each other in tough situations, which creates a theme and advances the plot. Throughout the play Antigone acts as a foil for Creon and her selflessness contrasts with Creon's determination to advance the plot and develop the theme of staying true to your morals.…

    Allusion In Antigone

    • 386 Words

In Antigone, Sophocles uses allusions to praise her courage in accepting her fate. Antigone shared many similarities to Danae. In Ode 4 as the chorus describes the misfortune of Danae it is stated that “a prisoner hidden in a chamber like a tomb, although she too, came from a noble line. And she my child had in her care the liquid streaming golden seed of Zeus,”(line 2-4). This mirrors Antigone in the way that Antigone is too thrown into a cave and looked in it as if it was her tomb. Danae was imprisoned due to the prophecy that stated if Danae ever had a child it would kill her father (Acrisius). Her father threw Danae into the cave so the prophecy would not come true. Learned in Antigone no one can escape their fate therefore Danae becomes…

Sophocles, an ancient Greek playwright, is the author of the prominent play named Antigone; the third of the trilogy. Even though one would usually think that ancient Greek theater is dull, one can learn a lot about themselves while reading them. While reading this story myself, I found that I correlate to the main character herself, Antigone. The character intrigued me; for we think and speak similarly. After finding this, I kept discovering more and more connections between the two of us. Separating into three different categories, Antigone and I are similar by Appearance and Surroundings, Personality, and Relationships with Others.…

Because there are so many changes in the history of the music I will focus on Grunge Rock for this portion of the essay. "Grunge music is generally characterized by "dirty" guitar, strong riffs, and heavy drumming. The "dirty" sound resulted both from a stylistic change in the standard method of playing punk rock, and from the common use of guitar distortion and feedback", is the description of the music offered by answers.com. This music was started by bands from the north-west of the United States such as Nirvana, from a town near Seattle, Washington. Nirvana was around from 1991 to 1994 which was around the same time that Grunge music was popular. It began with Nirvana's "Smells like Teen Spirit" becoming a hit among fans and the music soon escalated into a mainstream endemic. Many bands such as Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, Emerged over those years and sold many records though. Suddenly, Kurt Cobain allegedly killed himself by shooting up with 3 times the lethal amount of Heroin and shooting himself. He was found the next day in the greenhouse of his home in Los Angeles. There is a theory among Nirvana fans, however, that Courtney Love, Cobain's wife, paid someone to kill him. However, the Los Angeles Police refused to reopen the case after his death was ruled a suicide. From there the music lost momentum and soon slipped back into…
