Appleton Museum Project
Over the years art work has changed and artists have their own way of interrupting what art is and how it should be viewed. Between the years of 1506 to 2012 each artist I’ve chosen has their own way of depicting beauty. Art is in the eye of the beholder. One person may like something while someone else may see it in a different way. While visiting the Appleton Museum, I got in touch with my artist side.
European artwork dating back 600 years ago often resembles the Mona Lisa, Attributed to Berardino (portrait of a woman). This painting is the oldest in the Appleton Museum often referred to by the guards as The Appleton Mona. Some say the portrait was painted the same time as the Mona Lisa. Even though there is no evidence the portrait was painted by one of Devin chi’s students. The features in the portrait are very different than others in this time period. The colors are all very deep and dark. Compared to the Mona Lisa there are settle differences. Portrait of a woman is actually smiling, instead of the smirk depicted of the Mona Lisa. Portrait of a woman to me has the expression of being annoyed, and really not wanting to be the center of attention at the moment. The portraits face is full of color, her faint green and brown eyes are very realistic as if to be following you around the room. She carried light bags under eyes, seeming as if she was tried or had little sleep. Her head is tilted slightly to her right shoulder. The woman depicted in the portrait looks as if she was apart of a lower class (not royalty) family. The art work has a simple wooden frame, with flakes of gold to accent the dark colors in the painting. For the portrait to be so of age, it seems to have aged well.
Taking a short trip across the balcony, I found that the Appleton Museum has Chick Schwartz a Cedar Key artist, on exhibit. The one piece that caught my eye was Thunderstorm with its odd shape and bright florescent colors. In 2010 Chick painted an oil painting of the Cedar
