Argumentative Essay: 'An AR-15'
An AR-15. A long gun, as I’ve seen it called before. That fucking gun has been used numerous times to murder children and adults alike. 17 died yesterday, it was Valentine’s Day. People were giving and receiving chocolate and bears and flowers and balloons and other candies. There was feeling of happiness through the student body. It was just another normal Wednesday for most kids. They woke up in their beds, like usual. All warm and comfortable, not wanting to move from that spot. But nonetheless they got up, got dressed, showered maybe, brushed their teeth and hair. Got on the bus, or into their cars and headed off to school. It was just a normal day. Just another Wednesday, just like any other. It was supposed to be just another day, that’s …show more content…
Students and staff members alike. That boy’s name was Nikolas Cruz. He was 19. He was a trouble kid. An orphan. No parents, no real family outside of his one brother. But NONE of that could ever give him the right or the excuse to shoot up a school and kill children. One of the articles I read stated that Cruz pulled the fire alarm in the school so that students would come flooded into his line of fire. Only fucking maniacs say bullshit like that. There were a few videos of students recording what it was like inside those classrooms. The tears, the screaming, students rocking back and forth with their heads between their knees and it just, hurts. That could be anyone. That could be me, or my sisters, or my best friend, or it could be that boy in 6th grade that put gum in my hair. It could be you. NO ONE should ever have to live through that …show more content…
That right now if someone came into our school and started shooting that they wouldn’t be prepared. That they wouldn’t know what to do, or what to text their parents. Cause what are they supposed to say, “Hi Mom, how’s your morning going? Mine kinda sucks, cause there’s a manic with an AR-15 shooting my classmates and teachers. But it’s okay. It happens.” NO. This shouldn’t be something that these kids should have to think about. It’s beyond horrifying when you think about how unsafe this school is. How exposed we are. How one person could just go out and buy a deadly weapon and walk in a school and start spraying bullets among the masses. This is 2018. You’d think that the wars with screaming and death and the smell of gunpowder ingrained into everything would be a thing of the past. Something that kids of this generation wouldn’t have to fear, that we wouldn’t have to be our parents and be scared of every second of lives. That we wouldn’t have to fear the lurking World War III, with a mad man in control of the country’s nuclear missiles, and idiots “controlling” him. My point being that by now the children of America shouldn’t have to fear their own home, their own

It all started on the morning of December 14, 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut. Students and teachers were all preparing for the day of school ahead of them. They had no idea that the tragic event was going to happen. At around 9:30 a.m. the shooter entered the school. The shooter shot through the glass of the double doors to the lobby. The blast of the gun alerted the school that that something was wrong. “Principal Hochsprung and school psychologist Mary Sherlach step out to the hall to see what is going on, and are followed by Vice Principal Natalie Hammond. Hochsprung and Sherlach are killed, and Hammond is injured.” He soon made his way to the first grade classrooms. The first classroom he entered was lauren Rousseau's class. This took place at Taft Union High School near Bakersfield, California. This school shooting started because the student was a victim of bullying and he wanted revenge. The student came to school and shot one student and missed another. He called the student who was bullying him, and the came out of hiding and apologized, but the teacher, Ryan Heber, interrupted and he came face to face with the 16- year-old student, who was armed. Heber wasn’t sure with this if the student was either, going to put the weapon down or continue shooting. While the student was distracted, Supervisor Kim Fields took the rest of the students so they could escape. Finally, the shooter surrendered and the police took the student into custody. Friday, the next day, school was cancelled due to the situation, but counseling sessions were held that morning for teachers or students who wished to attend. Before Heber spoke to the shooter, the student who was shot in the process was in a critical, yet a stable condition. Kern County Sheriff, Donny Youngblood said “The name of the student wasn’t released, and is debating whether he will be charged as an adult or not.” KDET reported “Heber is a well-known and liked science teacher and was a graduate at Taft and with the situation the Heber family will be there for him with emotional support.” The Taft shooting was the latest school shooting in the U.S., and it launched a big debate whether teachers should carry weapons to protect themselves and others in case of another shooting. Immediately after the shooting, parents went to the school to pick up their children and express concern about the school security. A parent reported “We’re going to protect our students a lot more, and it goes to show that there is one bad apple out there.”…

If you never heard of this horrible event took it place on December 14th, when armed gunman Adam Lanza allegedly shot and killed twenty-six people , twenty of which were innocent children kindergarten to first grade and six teachers. Police also say that Adam was thought to have killed his mother before even entering this school. Sandy Hook is a well populated school with approximately 700 students. The school has a security system in which you have to be buzzed into the school, but apparently this wasn’t enough. The gunman forced entry, shooting out the locked door upon entrance, the door was shot out with an “assault rifle” such as a bushmaster rifle. Also the other guns found on the scene of the crime were a glock handgun and also sig-sauer handgun.(Sandy Hook shooting: What happened?). Now this is where it starts to get interesting. Some places you look for information on this topic you have multiple versions like any other story, but in my opinion the stories are more and more twisted even as time goes on, but your opinion is all that matters, and with that being said there are two videos I do believe you should watch.…

Although overall school violence is declining in America, mass shootings in suburban and rural areas are becoming more common ("School" par 1). On April 20, 1999 Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold decided to bring firearms and explosives to Columbine High School to go on a shooting rampage. These two boys, before killing themselves, killed 12 students, one teacher, and wounded 24 others. The cause of this Massacre was violence at the school place, Harris and Klebold were bullied as students and no action was taken when they started talking about killing people or physically hurting people. At the beginning of the school year teachers should give students talks about violence and school shootings. Teachers should tell students that violence is not a joke and it needs to be taken as a serious offence, whether there is going to be a fight at…

According to Elliot, “For the 2010-2011 school year, public schools report 31 school-associated violent deaths." '' Eleven of these reported deaths were homicides of children ages 5–18 on school grounds.''(Elliot 530). There are many ways that the shooter can sneak their firearm to school when it had a heavy presence of students. He or she can put their handgun in their pocket or carry a shotgun or assault rifle in a large coat. When the shooter walks into the school hallway, he or she will pull their weapon out of their hiding place and start to open fire on unexpected students and teachers. By this point, the shooter had a kill or seriously wounded many students and teachers. Therefore, the school system must find the solution to…
