In schools, students learn the basics of music in their elementary music classes. After elementary, they have the choice to continue their music education or to move onto something else. Many schools only require students to take a music class up until middle school. All schools should require students to take either choir or band as a graduation requirement.

Whether it be choir or band, participating in music is what will bring the most benefits to the table in the end. Performing better physically and mentally, students have shown to be effected by the works of music.
On that same note, “A 1993 study at Michigan State University showed that even 15 minutes of exposure to music could increase interleukin-1 levels, a consequence which also heightens immunity” (Frey & Turner). As one can see, now music is not only effecting the performance of people but health as well. Apparently, exposure to music brings positive impacts and consequences.
Along with how it physically affects a person, music increases a student’s ability to learn. Executive director of the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation, Mary Luehrisen, stated, “A music-rich experience for children of singing, listening and moving is really bringing a serious benefit to children as they progress into more formal learning” (qtd. in Brown
