Argumentative Essay: Is America Still The Free?
Is America still the land of the free or is it just for some people?

In the past few months there has been a lot of stories about black women and men, even children, who has been slaughtered by the police. And I say slaughtered, because that is how it was. For example Michael Brown, the police said Michael had attacked them, tried to grab an officer’s gun and hit him. They said the officer only acted in self defense. But here is the funny thing, there are no evidence at all that it happened. Witnesses say that Michael never tried to attack officer Wilson, there were no fingerprints on the gun and after the encounter officer Wilson did not have a single scratch. That makes you wonder if the police did just make up the story to have a reason

It costs about 30’000 $ for a Bachelorette Degree, and a Master Degree is even more expensive. Even though America has less taxes than us, it is still an outrageous amount of money to pay and save up for. Most students have to take out a student-loan and live in debt for many years after they have graduated. Without a higher education you do not get very far in life, so about 70 percent of America’s youths have an average debt of 28’400 $ by the time they leave college. If you have to live your whole life paying back 30’000 $ plus an interest rate, that is not freedom. You will have to adapt your life around your debt and that is not the way you should have to live.

Although there are many arguments as why America is not the land of the free, there are a good amount of arguments as of why America is the land of the free. Even though USA has a pretty high amount of debt and some political worries, it is still a stable country to live in. In the Economic Freedom of the World by James Gwartney, Robert Lawson, and Joshua Hall, USA is ranked 12th which is pretty good even though they have dropped 10 places since 2000.
They also have not had any civil war since 1865 and even though there has been some debates about the situation between Iraq and the US, it is still a safe country to live in. We must not also forget that

In the Michael Brown case, there is not just one side to the story. Michael Brown was unarmed at the time of the shooting, which is where it gets a bit sidetracked in the officer’s side of the story. Wilson, the officer who had shot Brown, was heard saying by a witness, “I’m going to shoot,” and then fired instantaneously, as said by Johnson (McLaughlin 2014). Belmar, the St. Louis Police Chief, had claimed that the investigation showed the officer was trying to get out of his vehicle, but Brown pushed him back in as they struggled over the officer’s weapon (McLaughlin 2014). In this case, Brown was shot without a cause, whether this is what the officer intended or not. Brown lost his life because of an officer’s…

Scott-Clayton makes many valid points here. The cost to attend college in terms of monetary value is outrageous. On average, 66% of college students graduate with debt from student loans. For many people repaying these loans will take all their life. There is also the possibility the college students could run out of money before completing college and must drop out. This is just monetary costs but as stated there are also psychological…

The United States of America is a country founded on Judeo-Christian morals and ethics and is comprised of unique individuals who have led the world in innovation and ingenuity. The liberties and freedoms that America is founded on have enabled people to develop some of the world’s most technological advances. The capitalistic system has created the opportunity for great personal wealth, and has given millions of people opportunities that otherwise would not have been afforded to them without living in this country. As a civilized society based on the foundation of those morals and ethics, it is also a country founded on laws that ensure protection and civil order. The United States of America is a…

Take the case of Freddie Gray who was a black man who was fatally wounded in police custody. Gray while in police custody asked for medical attention many times. The police officers ignored him and strapped him up in the back of a police van. Later that day an ambulance is required at the police department about an unconscious man. Gray arrived at the hospital and was diagnosed with shock trauma after he suffered with broken vertebrae. Gray stayed in the hospital for a week until he passed away from his wounds. Another example case is the case of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager who was shot down in Ferguson, Missouri. Brown was stopped by Officer Darren Wilson, a white Ferguson Police officer. Several reports say Brown was shot with his hand up in surrender. Officer Wilson shot Mr. Brown ten plus times in what he says were self-defense. This police officer who's had training is afraid for his life by an eighteen year old teenager. That is not believable that police officers are so called trained professionals but are trigger happy when they are faced with an unarmed black…

Starting with the slave trade in the mid-1600’s and evolving into laws being erected in 1954, racism has been prevalent in the United States for hundreds of years. Now, its 2017 and even after slavery and Jim Crowe laws have been abolished, and Brown vs Board has been appealed, racism still rears its ugly head in the lives of the masses. This particular plague has unfortunately spread into the hearts and minds of civilians, government officials, and those holding immense amounts of power and influence. With that being said, it is no surprise that among the bodies in which such gross injustices occur, the police force comes into question. Seemingly more so than ever, police brutality as a whole has been happening at an alarming rate. Flip on…

In 2012 an underage teen named Trayvon Martin was fatally shot trying to go home from the store by a man named George Zimmerman. In 2011 twelve year old boy named Tamir Rice was shot by police for playing with a bebe gun outside. A girl named Aiyana Jones was shot by a policeman while she was sleeping on the couch during a home raid by police. There are many more of these cases, one thing they have in common, they were all black and all cases were ruled as not guilty. 41 black boys have been reported shot unarmed since 1980 to 2012, the average age of blacks killed by police was 30 the average age of whites was 35 ( deadly force in black and white Gabrielson). The black lives matter group no matter how old the case is still trying to get justice for the family. Trayvon’s family got higher than a million. There's a 49 percent chance of a black person getting shot by police than a white person and at least half the cases remain not guilty. At least fourteen police officers got away with murdering an unarmed black teenage alone in the year 2015 ( chuffington post…

American liberty is a rare diamond in the world. To find a culture like us would be extremely tedious and we most likely would never find one which would have been showered with equivalent blessings as us. The color that our founders splashed into the fabric of our country, is coveted by all no matter how much they deny it. As we all may know, freedom isn't a life without government. Human nature demands a government to keep us all in check and to continue life in relative peace. Too much government and there is tyranny and too little forms anarchy. A gray balance is what the founders sought for. Beyond the expectations of the mocking outside world, they created a government which kept the freedom for people to follow their own desires and…

Are we really free? The definition of freedom is this, “exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc.” From my point of view, if you want to get anything done you will have to take orders, do them the way you’re told, and have others interfere when it isn’t going the way they wanted it to. Sure you could just sit and do nothing, you’re free to do that, but that would land you homeless, and poor. Freedom is an illusion placed in front of us so we don’t see the truth, and stay motivated.…

Land of the Free, a phrase used to define America since the mid 1700s; this phrase is just as present in today’s society as it was then. Immigrants across the entire world longed for freedom and a chance at a better life. Thousands of these immigrants began to venture to America to become apart of this free land. As time has passed millions of immigrants have made their way into America, however, gaining entry into the United States has become a much more difficult process since the early years. With many immigrants desperate to join the American culture, a majority of these immigrants have come over illegally. Unauthorized immigration has turned into an epidemic across the entire United States and therefore has a major effect on the economy…
