One reason is She need to pay he father's debt. “I can go to lowell and make real money to pay off the debt so i can go home” because she is living away from her family she is living alone without Mama, Charlie, Rachel, And Agnes. so if they shorten the working hours she won't have as much time to to earn money. “The pay reflected her proficiency.
