Lyddie should not sign the petition for many reasons. Such as she needs the money to pay of her father's debt, She will be blacklisted and others

One reason is She need to pay he father's debt. “I can go to lowell and make real money to pay off the debt so i can go home” because she is living away from her family she is living alone without Mama, Charlie, Rachel, And Agnes. so if they shorten the working hours she won't have as much time to to earn money. “The pay reflected her proficiency. She was making almost $2.50 a week above her $1.75 board”.

The other good reason for Lyddie should not sign the petition is because she will have no where to stay after she signs. While Lyddie can sign the petition , if she does she will have to leave the house and has nowhere to live. "You'd be blacklisted no other corporation would hire you" This shows that Lyddie would not have money to stay at a tavern or boarding house for long and would not be able to get a job. Lyddie should not sign because she will be payed much less, she could be blacklisted, and she has no place to go.
