Bethany Hamilton is one tough puppy. Bethany had the “typical life”, all normal until one day she had a not so “typical life.” After a terrible event happened, getting her arm torn off by a shark. While she was in the hospital she was thinking “Will I ever be able to surf again?” Some people said “no” but she said “yes!” She was anxious to get back on the board. She did not give up because she ended up going to Regionals. Bethany had a tough time at Regional because her board snapped in half, which forced her to forfeit. She was beginning to lose faith in herself. She was offered an artificial arm, but she got frustrated because she could not put weight on it, which meant she could not use it for surfing, so there was practically no reason to even try it. She ended up giving up at one point in the film, right after Regionals she gave all her boards away that’s when she loses ninety percent of her faith. She ends up wanting to surf again after her dad makes her a board with a handle on it, so she can pull herself up on the board. She starts to feel confident, after the handle makes it easier for her to get up. She feels like she is ready for the Championships, she goes to the Championships and she ends up placing fifth because her last wave did not count because the buzzer blew and time was up. She was not angry or upset, she was just happy that she didn’t give up on her dream of becoming a professional surfer. In conclusion that is why I believe, do not stop believing is one of the morals of the film Soul

Through her story of faith, persistence, and confidence, Bethany Hamilton has illustrated to millions how to strive for the seemingly unachievable. At the mere age of thirteen, Hamilton experienced something life changing: having an arm bitten off by a shark while surfing. Surfing had always meant the world to Bethany, in fact, her career as a surfer was primarily initiated because of her parents (Hamilton 7). Throughout the story, she encounters problems that continuously defy what her original goal was. The idea that things go the opposite way than she intended illustrates the fact she has little power and control. When things go her way, she can act mature but when the situation goes south, things can get out of control. As an example, when the movie manager refused to refund her money she lit the candy stand on fire. “So he ain’t gettin up off the money.…
