by civilians, and only 897,000 carried by police.(1) Guns are machines made by humans to protect themselves from those who can harm them.
The second amendment if the United states reads as follows: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”. It is unconstitutional to have gun control; the four fathers of the United states always wanted small government regulations on gun control. The government would have changed the amendment or added new laws if the country was safe enough for people not to have a weapon. Guns have become important but they also need to be controlled all over the world. The combination of violence on the television, video games and music today has made guns a “cool” thing to have. Trigger locks are used to make a firearm more difficult to discharge and act as a safety precaution in carrying and owning guns. However, only 9 states in America (NY, NJ, CA, OH, MI, RI, MD, PA, MA) have trigger lock laws that enforce this precautionary measure.(2) Facts like these force you to think if gun control is even being taken seriously, and if it is that big of a problem in the United States. Agreed that there have been a lot of incidents in the united states in the past 10 years but maybe gun control is not the …show more content…
answer. Guns and gun control is not just a problem in North America but a global issue and needs to be dealt with globally. I am not a person who likes guns or even find them intriguing, but the where I come from in Pakistan it is necessary to protect yourself in some way. The gun culture in many countries has been going on for generations, in Pakistan the Pakhtoon’s in NWFP conceder their guns as jewelry. Guns are considered great gifts for a boy becoming a man, but if seen at from a different perspective such as knowing that Pakistan is one of the most dangerous countries in the world today it makes you think twice. The Pakistani government has always thought that gun control can reduce crime rates and they may be correct but the gun control problem has become out of control. Finding an illegal gun is not too tricky to find, from New York to Karachi, guns are always available. From past experiences I have been convinced that bearing arms in some situations is life saving. A gun is considered life threatening and if a person has a gun on your head, it does not matter if it’s loaded or not, you do as you’re told. I have been on gun point on several occasions and have been robbed in front of dozens of people. Even after the people around me saw that I was being mugged or kidnapped no one chose to do anything. A gun gives you power, its like a 5 feet man becames a 7 feet giant. Guns create fear and especially if you watch movies or play videos games the exaggerated effects add to the fear.
I have been mugged in Pakistan in situations where if you were allowed conceal and carry I could defend myself.
One day I was sitting in my car next to a small street cart. I was with a few friends sipping tea, It was day time and the second day of Eid (a major Muslim celebration). Out of nowhere two men come up and stand near us, one on each side of the car. Me thinking it was the waiter from the food cart, I told him I didn’t need anything else. I repeated myself a few time but the men didn’t move, when I made eye contact he shook his head telling me to look at my friend and when I did I saw there was a gun pointed at him. At a time like this the first thing that happens is you are in shock, I felt my face going white, I could feel the blood drain down my body as they loaded on my neck and asked me for all my things. Even after giving them everything we had they still scared us smacked us around, asking us if we had a gun many times. At that time if I had a gun I might have been able to protect myself maybe by shooting some bullets in the air. Points being you don’t even have to have a gun everyone benefits, because everyone could potentially have a gun so muggers are less likely to risk trying to mug
people.
Different countries have different gun problems. Gun control is a very important issue in today’s world. I believe that the Governments need to look into the black market for arms. One of the main reasons the topic of gun control is so important is because of the black market, guns bought from the black market are harder to trace and cheaper.
The problem is not the guns, the problem is the lack of education, lack of respect for other human beings and the lack of patience. Not saying that these issues will solve the problem completely, but innocent killing will decrease. Every day at least 12 people are shot down in Karachi because of target killing. Being a citizen of the same city watching the news and hearing about it on a daily basis has made me and a lot other civilians not care about what is happening. Those people are civilians killed by civilians but the guns are provided to them, they are guaranteed immunity. So although gun control may help reduce crimes some things will remain the same.
