Gun Violence in America “I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it (Eastwood). Statistics are proving that we need to prevent gun violence and get rid of all access to all guns. In this country, anybody can get a gun, statistics prove gun violence is increasing, we need to prevent gun violence. Banning guns completely will make America safe again. Every day, 306 people in America are shot in murders, assaults, suicides and suicide attempts, unintentional shootings, and police intervention. Every day, 90 people die from gun violence: 31 are murdered. 56 kill themselves (Key Gun Violence Statistics). Private gun ownership should be banned. “Everyday people in america are killed due to guns. Every day, 7 children and teens die from gun violence” …show more content…
(Key Gun Violence Statistics). Not only are adults dying from gun violence, but children and teens are dying too. Over 17,000 children and teens die yearly from guns, just in America. “In America, 1 out of 3 homes with kids have guns and nearly 1.7 million children live in a home with an unlocked, loaded gun. Talking to children about the dangers of firearms is not enough” (Key Gun Violence Statistics). Irresponsible gun owners are leaving guns loaded in a household with children and teens. Children and teens are not mature enough to always leave a gun alone, and they may not know if it is loaded. Lastly, statistics prove that children, teens and adults are dying every day due to lack of gun control and too much gun violence. Preventing violence in America will take three simple steps.
One of these steps is better background checks along with getting military grade weapons off the streets, and better enforcing the law. “The only way to determine whether an individual is prohibited from purchasing a firearm under state or federal law is to conduct an instant background check.”(Tanden). Background checks are very important to the safety of our country. “The recent mass shootings in Aurora, Colorado and Newtown, Connecticut have a deadly element in common: The shooters used military-grade rifles to inflict maximum damage.”(Tanden). Next, military grade assault rifles have thirty round clips, these serve no purpose and should be limited to a ten round clip maximum. Enforcing the gun laws are important to the safety of America. If more guns laws are not put into place there will be more domestic attacks until we put these laws into effect. Lastly, there needs to be more strict laws put into place for more thorough background checks, keeping guns away from felons and criminals and enforcing these
laws. Guns are used in almost every murder in America. The easiest way to stop the murdering of innocent children, teens, and adults is by banning guns completely. Nobody should have access to handguns, military grade weapons, or anything of the type. “It’s not about dividing society into “good” and “bad” gun owners. It’s about placing gun ownership itself in the “bad” category. “(Bovy). Everybody knows that guns are bad, and even worse when a bad or mentally ill person gets ahold of a military grade weapon. Banning gun altogether, in the hands of the people, and the police, will stop violent crimes, shootings and murders completely. Not only will banning guns stop the murders, but nobody will have to live in fear. Guns put people in fear of their life, everybody, children and adults. Nobody should have to live in fear, and banning guns will stop this problem. Lastly, banning guns will stop the mass murdering problem in America, and keep americans from living in fear.
