An example of parents not educating their children and keeping a loaded weapon around would be when a 3 year old in Albuquerque, found a handgun in his mother’s purse and shot both his mom and dad with a single shot (Sacco 1). Even though the child was just old enough to walk, he could have been told in any way that the gun in his mother’s purse was bad and to not touch it. The fact that the loaded weapon even being around is absolutely ridiculous. A loaded weapon being around a child has more of a chance of harming the parent or the child than actually protecting the child. More than enough evidence shows that gun safety should be practiced and taught to children.
Because of people’s lack of gun safety in America, a very good amount of children have harmed themselves and others. Children should not touch guns, should know that it is a very dangerous weapon that can and will kill someone, should not have access to them, and should not even be around them. Although others think that it is better for their child to remain ignorant or even keep a loaded gun around, it does more harm than good for the children of America. If everyone were to live by, and practice gun safety in their homes, there could be no more harm done to children or anyone else due to
