Plant Based Diet V. Paleo The average person who lives in America has an omnivorous diet. We eat meat, plants, fruits, everything. The ratio of vegetarians/vegans to omnivorous people is far less. But, what if this “American” diet we have today is the problem? What if the huge portions of meat and animal products that we consume on a regular basis is what’s causing this nation to be the most overweight and sickest compared to other parts of the world? Joel Fuhrman says plant based eating is the way to go also. He wrote a book called “Eat to Live” and it is about the effects of the American diet on the human body and how to achieve sustained weight loss and reversing disease with a plant based diet. Fuhrman says heart disease is the number one killer is the United States. It accounts for more than 40 percent of all deaths. “The typical dietary advice from the American Heart Association is still a dangerous diet”, states Fuhrman is his book. Eating a diet that is high in nutrients compared to calories is the key according to the doctor. A doctor named Dr. Dean Ornish also agrees with Campbell and Esselstyn about the benefits of a plant based diet. He has also researched the connection between a high consumption of animal products and disease, mainly heart disease.
